I still cant imagine how a guy actually got letters on a computer to actually have a value of something. Like how the hell did he code the first program? Thats unbelievable to me.

I think processors have more of a "wow" factor. Imagine the first calculator someone had to figure out the formula for every multiplication problem.computers are crazy in general, but when I look at my motherboard, I think, how is this possible?

The invention of Electricity, Who knew we could take these sub atomic particles called "electrons" and manipulate them to do things even the human brain can't do.
The 8-Track was just so mind blowing. You had 4 Sweet jams on each side. So not only could you hit a button to switch sides you could also switch between 4 sweet tracks via 4 buttons. But then some ass came up with the compact cassette leaving us to rewind and fast forward a little then rewind a little then fast forward a little more just to find our sweet jam. It was inconvenient and hindered locating our jamz in a timely as well as convenient fashion. The compact cassette didn't allow me to jam as efficiently as I preferd to.
I bet the jerk who designed the compact cassette also introduced stereo, but **** him, because mono is the BEST way to jam. Seven mono speakers in seriesis the way to jam.

The human brain runs on electricity.
then why is it i dont feel any smarter when i chew batteries[QUOTE="tenaka2"]

Only us Canadians think alike ;)I am going to sound really arrogant here so please forgive.
I love it that so many people are saying computer and the internet when to me they are two things that where bound to come up in one form or another. In other words, their existance is not so amazing to me because I feel that they are a natural developement for us humans. First of all, the two seem to people to be more complex than they actually were in there early stages. The main concepts behind the functionality of the two are very simple to understand; to a useful extent, one can use the brain as an analogy. I remember how surprised I was to learn in the computer architecture course I took how very simple computer architecture was (up to when cpu went 64 bit). That course was fun; I got to built from the ground up via software and some programmable hardware device a computer as powerful as an NES. Heck I even constructed my own crippled programming language and compiler. Anyways, I think that if one can understand how programming works then the can understand how computers and the internet work. What amazes me about the two is how much the two have improved, especially in the last decade. Our phones are more powerful now than desktops where in 2000 and we now have quantum computers and transparent displays and capacitive touch screens, motion detection, bluetooth, color e-ink, and paper-displays and bio-computers, and impressive AI.
The internet for sure. I can play some guy in Fifa from thousands of miles away and have no noticable lag.
If you consider the wide variety of items we use today and in the future one thing really makes a statement. Plastics.
Just about everything in our lives depend on this one great invention.
Cause you put them in backwards, silly.then why is it i dont feel any smarter when i chew batteries
