So i want to invest in an expensive watch. Specifically an Omega Constellation 18k gold. It's $2800. The omega sea master is $1500. I know people say spending over 100 bucks on a watch is not very smart but i'm pretty sure watches like rolex and omega hold their value. What do you think about investing an an omega watch, would you do it in the future or have done it?

I think that would be one of the most dumbass things you could do, and you would look like a tool while wearing it.

Watches arent "investments." They dont gain value over time.

I personally wouldnt do it as there are more things i can purchase that give me greater value, but if you really want them that badly, go for it.

It's a status symbol that shows that you're officially stupid enough to spend a lot of money on watches, while very well made, is hardly justified spending $2800 on. Same reason why guys spend money on cufflinks or women blowing a wad of cash on handbags. They're status symbols and they show that you make money.

Never much liked watches.

Pocket watches are pretty ballin' imo, even if they aren't practical. Not that I'd ever wear one.

I wouldn't spend over 500$ for a watch and if i did spend anywhere near the 500$ mark it would have to be something amazing at a huge discount price, i when normally look at watch anywhere from 50-200 and tend not to go over that. And you can get good quality watches for that price obviously not the same level as that but good none the less.

I've had nice watches that cost up to 50 bucks that last years, i would never spend more than $100 on a watch.

I dunno, 2.8k seems way too expensive. Not to mention it's something that can easily go "missing" and is pretty hard to hide from the public eye.

Sure, why not? It's pretty much the one accessory guys get to wear, might as well go all out if you can afford it. I'd get an Omega. $2500 is pretty steep, though.

I personally think many of the omega collection watches are very cute and stylish and I would definitely consider it a worthwhile investment. While I can't say I'd buy one in the future(i'm just not all that fond of wearing watches myself) I can definitely admire a mans decision to invest in a quality one. It's a pretty good look for a guy to have a nice expensive luxury watch on his wrist IMO. I've spent way more then that on each and every one of my handbags and I don't regret buying any of them. If you really want it and you have money to blow then I say go for it.

I just came back from Hong Kong and there are guards with shotguns sitting outside the Rolex stores. More topic related though, I think go for it because they can last a long time and the price is only going up.

i guess the only problem is when to wear it. If you wear it daily while taking the subway to work u might get robbed. So it's like...you can only wear it i guess to a friend's house, party, etc.

Well, if you want one and dont mind spending the money, then by all means get one. Sure a 10$ watch from walmart can do the same thing, but is it as nice, will it age well and will it last long? Of course not. An expensive anything is bought to be kept and used over a lifetime, its not something you use for a couple of years (maybe not even) and then discard, unlike most things in today's society.

Like I said, if you are aware of the value it holds and appreciate the craftsmanship of the watch, then get it. If you are just buying it to spend money, have something fancy and dont care about the value of the watch, I wouldn't recommend it.

You're above my pay grade on that one, but if you can afford to spend (I guess "to spare" I should say) that on a watch you want, you might as well reward yourself. I don't understand the mentality that something much cheaper is just as good, because you didn't say you simply wanted a watch that works. Also, rich people tend to buy a lot of expensive things. My general opinion, I don't have one. I can't afford expensive watches and haven't had any to speak on.

it's a status symbol. Someone living in the ghettos off food stamps with 5 siblings is not going to be able to afford the things that a family living in a high class area can afford.

I guess so. However, I don't judge my friends or peers by what they wear or how big their house is. I guess it's different places, so there are different mindsets.

A video game forum is not a good place to ask a this. Most of the responses will be "its a waste of money".

I think Omega is a great luxury watch brand. I would actually go for the Seamaster if I had the chance. The Seamaster is both modern and sleek looking and its just a pretty awesome watch. Is it the James Bond version? If so, I would definetely go for it. The Omega Constellation for me is too expensive and for that look I'd rather go for a Rolex or Cartier. Seamaster overall is fancy looking but sleek and modern, and plus, James Bond wears it.

How old are you? If you're under 30, it won't really serve as a status symbol. Most people will probably think you have rich parents. Otherwise, go ahead (as long as it's not taking a big bite in your savings).

I don't even have a watch. When you have the time on your cell phone which is always at arms reach for me and clocks throughout practically every building, there is no need for one in my opinion.

I wouldn't invest in watches really...... If you like the style and want a quality timepiece go for it imo. But, don't treat it as an investment. If you want a nice pseudo expensive watch the Movado Museum series can be found for $400-$500(completely different style then most Omegas though)
