Sometimes I think that his parents were taking the piss when they named him, but then I realise there are other cultures in this world and go back to not thinking about him.

He focuses on speed rather than pleasent sounding riffs. Put a Dragonforce song on liquify and you've got Malmsteen.

This was my first thought.

I saw a youtube vid of him, Satriani and Vai covering Little Wing. The other two were at least decent, but he butchered it pretty badly.

There are many shredders out there that can put tremendous amounts of soul and emotion in their fretwork-- Malmsteen is not one of them.
