i have the sony erricson w580i and so do a few of my friends. they all like it, its quite nice. it has alot of features and is only like 50-80 bucks i think if you have the upgrade option or are getting your first phone. check it out!
Depends on what you want. I'm looking forward to getting rid of my Windows Mobile (never again!) phone to pick up a Blackberry Curve or an iPhone. If the Google Android phones ever come out, I think those will be tough to beat. iPhone or especially Android would be nice so I can make my own apps.
I'm getting a Moto Q within 2 weeks. My parents already have one and I've used it quite a bit. It's really cool. Internet, full qwerty keyboard, and a pretty nice interface. $150 with a 2 year plan. The internet works better than you'd expect as long as you don't look up sites with a lot of pictures. Youtube even works pretty fast on it. Videos take about 10 seconds to buffer.

I got my phone from Japan, and I dont speak a word of Japanese. Anyway, the Nokia N95 is the best phone out.
