What do you think the Large Hadron corrider is? (Poll)
It's big enough to fit a spaceship...
Also do you think it should be destroyed?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It's the world's largest particle accelerator. And, no, I don't think it should be destroyed. Dark_Knight6
They tell you that, but what if they are lieing?
It's like the time that they told the bombers in WW2 to nuke Japan, and they didn't even know it was going to be like that.
Why would you not put what it really is in the poll?
Its an extremely large particle accelerator that is going to be used to advance our technology, and it is first (I blieveing) aiming to prove Hawkings theory of decaying black holes (or something like that)..diped
I thought it was going to make the most killer pancakes in the world...

So how does it advance the technology?
Itd be pretty easy to stop, I think the particles, depending on what they are could be stopped by a sheet of aluminum or Iron Foil.
But it could take a wall of lead or concrete..........
still as the above person said, you could just poop in it and it might just like catastrophically fail.
Then again, do you really want something that big with particles moving that fast to fail?
Certainly not if Im standing next to it!Ill make sure to be FAR away from it!!!
EDIT: on second thought, the sheet of Aluminum foil might be able to deflect the particles flight enough that the two particles wouldnt ever hit, so they would...... do something, maybe making it fail.....
Id try soemthing bigger tho, maybe drive a car into it...... except that I think its underground....... So you could throw a shovel at it, then drive a car into it......

So how does it advance the technology?
It's going to help us understand physics, and god knows we desperately need help understanding physics.[QUOTE="Makemap"][QUOTE="diped"]Why would you not put what it really is in the poll?

the rings running full tilt would create as much energy as like a train going 90mph.. i dont think foil would help
particle accelerators rule... can't wait to see the results from that last one they did!Curlyfrii87
Didn't the last test malfunction and spew a bunch of helium into the tunnel and melt a few portions of the machine?

No but they are particles, which means they can be deflected or taken off course by an atoms charge
and since theyre so tiny, even taking them a little off course means they miss each other and dont collide.
The point isnt to stop them, that would take the other particle, but you could deflect them slightly!
If the Gold Foil experiment could deflect particles, sometimes almost straight back, with nothing but an extremely thin sheet of Gold, then Im sure concrete or Lead, or perhaps Almuminum or Iron could deflect one particle by just enough to make it not collide!
And if all else fails you can just do as I suggested earlier and drive a car into it

So how does it advance the technology?
The more we understand about partical physics the more we can exploit it in things like processors.
