im wondering and i know nothing in this field so dont make fun of me.

what does it take to be a swat soldier. to work in that career? do u need to go through university? do you first have to be a cop and work your way up? does it take many years? can someone please explain to me the background of SWAT. thanks again

I'll assume you need a great physique, able to think clearly under huge stress, pretty good grades and I think a couple of years in the Military would also work in ones favor. That's atleast what my logical reasoning is coming up with.

You mean "SWAT officer"? From Wiki: SWAT officers are selected from volunteers within their law enforcement organization. Depending on the department's policy, officers generally have to serve a minimum tenure within the department before being able to apply for a specialist section such as SWAT. This tenure requirement is based on the fact that SWAT officers are still law enforcement officers and must have a thorough knowledge of department policies and procedures. SWAT applicants undergo rigorous selection and training, similar to the training some special operations units in the military receive. Applicants must pass stringent physical agility, written, oral, and psychological testing to ensure they are not only fit enough but also psychologically suited for tactical operations. In addition, applicants must successfully pass a stringent background investigation and job performance review. Emphasis is placed on physical fitness so an officer will be able to withstand the rigors of tactical operations. After an officer has been selected, the potential member must undertake and pass numerous specialist courses that will make him or her a fully qualified SWAT operator. Officers are trained in marksmanship for the development of accurate shooting skills. Other training that could be given to potential members includes training in explosives, sniper-training, defensive tactics, first-aid, negotiation, handling K9 units, rappelling and roping techniques and the use of specialized weapons and equipment. They may also be trained specifically in the handling and use of special ammunition such as bean bags, flash bang grenades, tasers, and the use of crowd control methods, and special less-than-lethal munitions. Of primary importance is close-quarters defensive tactics training, as this will be the primary mission upon becoming a full-fledged SWAT officer.

to be a swat soldier, you gotta think what your opponent think and do whatever you think will destroy them. scenario 1: dude with ak47 blastin away. you hesitate and think what is your wisest move. then you throw a grenade. mission accomplished.

Typically you will need an Associates degree in pretty much anything, become a police officer and do a good job and know the right people (SWAT guys). Generally, only cities or towns with enough people will have a separate SWAT unit. The main thing is becoming a police officer, statistics are that around 50 out of 1,000 people are actually accepted into police academy, there are a lot of factors in becoming a cop.

I have heard that they don't really like to train military people, becase they have a tendency to shoot a lot, and it is hard to break them of that habit. I know a few people who are swats, and I don't think it that hard to get into. Just go through law enforcement, and get in shape. Ask a police officer or someone like that.

You heard wrong, many SWAT officers are former members of the military. I dont know where you get the notion that people in the military have some bad habit of shooting at people, you hope you dont shoot people but sometimes you have to, to protect the guy next to you. Raids are done all the time in Iraq in an urban area without people getting shot.

Yeah im also interested in these fields and im pretty sure you need prior police officer and/or military experience to get in these fields unless you want a desk job or something and most certainly an AS or BA from college.

After watching that "Detroit SWAT" show, or whatever it's called, not much. You just have to be a gear queer.

Every time I watch that show, they essentially tear a house down looking for a suspect who turns out to be unarmed, and they'll come out with one bag of weed and tout their great success.

Every time I watch that show, they essentially tear a house down looking for a suspect who turns out to be unarmed, and they'll come out with one bag of weed and tout their great success.

I was also watching that it was ironic cause i had just posted on this thread, but i believe that was the detroit DEA not the SWAT

hmmm, maybe it was Dallas SWAT. I know it was a SWAT show that I was watching.
