How about a car with solar panels on top, an electric battery to power the car(powered by the solar cell and can be recharged at home), and a wind turbine that will naturally be moving constantly because of the air that flows through it as the car moves(this can create electricity, so the car is essentially recharging itself as it moves, it just needs one small jumpstart from the solar cell).

How about put a soft cushion on the bumper of the car, as in a bunch of foam and soft material, so if you bump another car, there's no metal/structure damage, just the soft material bouncing the cars around, kind of like bumper cars. So who's holding these ideas back? Gas companies paying these scientists to hold these inventions back so that they can make profit on $4 a gallon? According to National Geographic and several analysts, the peak of oil output will be in 2015. This car of mine, what do guys think?

I'm rooting for Tesla Motors. If a small company like that was able to produce an efficient electric car, it just proves how addicted to oil every other car company is.

lol my English teacher hated all mid and full size SUVs with a passion, called them stupid utility vehicles, although i convinced him that Crossover SUVs where far superior as they have some of the highest MPGs around, the Ford Escape Hybrid gets around 37 City i think and even the Honda CR-V gets around 28 City

Your car defies scientific laws. I'm not too sure, but I don't think you can have wind turbines make your car move if the car requires wind turbines to move. Kinda like saying that if you hold onto a bar and put it behind your back, you can sit on it as long as your holding it. The solar power thing might be good for a battery, but your car would be super slow. But most importantly, it wouldn't look cool :D

we will first see more and more hybrids. then people will carpool more. Then people will start ridin scooters and motorcyles more. in my city everyone drives their own car, and its a joke to see a bunch of people driving suburbans that are empty!

after a few more years, almost EVERY car is smaller, more aerodynamic, and a hybrid. THEN you'll see more electric cars. Solar powered cars will never become common, since most cities dont get enough sun, and solar panels are too fragile. Car makers want cars to be repairable if they get in a minor crash.

thats how i see it will go down.

Let's say that your electric battery starts your car to get to 60mph on the highway; by now your little turbine will be moving like crazy, and that movement can be used to create more energy for the battery. Of course when the car stops, the turbine will stop, but then once that electric battery(which has been recharged say 50% from the wind turbine, and of course the solar power fills in the other 50%) starts the car again, the turbine will move again and create more energy.

i hate to be the fun police but direct solar panel cars can only go so far (50 miles average) and they are expenisve to make and have long recharge times and cannot recharge while in use. And in no way whatsoever can a car generate power via wind power because the interal generator would be insignificatly small. Electric cars can work but unless the make roadside power stations there kinda limited to home base.

sorry but that little turbine at that speed doesnt really generate much power at all.

well they wont go out entirely but they will go out of the public eye, the military still has huge demand for them

I think a bigger concern is figuring out ways for commercial-line truckers to carry their wares in a more "economically-friendly" vehicle. Airplanes too. And gigantic Motorhomes need to be banned outright. Same with NASCAR and F1 while we're at it.

Either way, the entire world has to drastically over-haul the entire transit system, yet no one has the cojones to do it. I guess having an economy is nice.

We need someone along the likes of an Einstein or Newton to step up the plate and offer an economically viable solution to the so-called "energy crisis". Frankly, I think the only long term solution is to curb population growth by temporarily imposing barriers on reproduction. I guess a "Children of Men" dystopia is a topic of discussion for another day...

i think they should make some kind of engine that drives on electronic magnets or something. look at these modern rollercosters, they use magnets to accelerate of the start. they go like from 0 - nearly 100 mph in seconds
