I have been wondering about this for a while and I found this YouTube video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZXcRqFmFa8

Is this a good example of what English sounds like to non-English speakers or does it sound different?

I've actually always wondered that. Here, we all know what our made up "chinese" or other languages sound like. I've always wondered what English sounds like to non-english speaking folk.

The same as if I hear someone speaking German - I hear it exactly the way a German speaker does, but I just can't understand it.

My Korean friends tell me that the stereotypical mock English (in Korea) is "sha sha sha sha". Like how stereotypical mock Chinese in English is "ching chang chong".

Listen to somebody when they speak but only pick the sounds of the word and not the letters. It sounds like gibberish.

I've heard English to people that don't speak it is a very "hissy" language, as in we use a lot of S's. Just take into consideration the main things you hear when you hear a language that you don't understand. Certain elements stand out, and I could see the "S" thing haha.

Now all you need to do is show that video to someone who doesn't speak or understand english, and see if they think there's something wrong with it.

I can't comprehend the Britsh accents, and to me it sounds like they're in a James Bond film.

Since my native language is Spanish I gotta admit English was kind of hard at the beginning, but mind that I started learning English as a kid. Now, it is quite easy but for what I hear from my classmates the real problem of them is the pronunciation and the grammar rules.

Grammar is hard regardless of language, I still don't have mine packed in Spanish.
