What EXACTLY is supposed to happen on Dec. 21 2012? (AKA not another 2012 topic)

I've heard about this fortold "end of the world" for about five years, now. But I've never heard about what is supposed to happen. I mean, if Sarah Palin gets elected to office, it wouldn't be in December. So if that isn't the end of the world, what is?

If people are worried about the "2012 The Movie" stuff happening, I don't think we have much to worry about. "OH NOEZ A BALL OF FIR JST HIT MAI HOUUSE!" Preposterous.

According to all reputable scientists in the world, nothing out of the ordinary whatsoever.

According to Mayans, nothing at all. So we can all relax, chill, and chillax.

With a little luck, nutjobs will self-fulfill their own prophecies and end their miserable, pathetic lives.

I don't know why everyone thinks that the mayans were smart enough to predict the end of the world. Maybe they just said "screw it" after getting to 2012, because none of them cared because they weren't going to live that long anyway.bloodrunner6

All that happens on that date is the end of their long count, and the start of a new one. To claim that they predicted the end of the world is like claiming that the 2009 calendar is predicting the end of the world on December 31 because that's where it ends.

Pretty much. It's western society that's giving the end of the world scenarios. Listen to the Mayans themselves that say that you'll live.

The Mayans predicted the end of an age and the beginning of a new, more enlightened age. That's about it. Then some people in modern times noticed that their long count was coming to an end and basically just invented some BS apocalypse theory that the Mayans themselves never spoke a word of, and since humans seem to so desperately need to be afraid of things 24/7, it caught on and now everyone thinks that the Mayans claimed the world would end, when in fact they predicted something entirely positive.
