In my first semester ever only with 3 classes and out of 2 of them, I'm not doing so well in them. I'm thinking of withdrawing from one of them because I don't need to take it but I'll have less credit. Can you be kicked out if you're failing most of your classes? What can you do after that?

Typically you'll be placed on academic probation for one semester/quarter. If you continue down that path the next semester, you have a meeting with the dean and are generally kicked.

Some schools will kick you out. Others, you may lose your scholarship if it's based off academics.

You'll get academic probation and a semester to turn things around. Why are you failing this early on though? If it's lifestyle (too much partying, etc) or something you can change, I would do it now. College is expensive. If you are just failing because you're not good at it, maybe it's time to think of other options. College definitely isn't right for everyone.

Finals are next month so you at least have to time to get your grade to "passing." Sounds like you might need to learn to go somewhere quiet and just study for a few hours without any distractions...like GS.

I only try finishing the work to get it over with and only spend a little time on it. I'm considering making some changes like dropping the video games so I can do better in college.

Most colleges will kick you out after two semesters of poor grades. I think most will let you back in though after you take some time off.

You generally have to have a "hearing" though to get back in after that break.

Its time to cut the crap and lift your game! You mummy is not there to help you. And no one is going to hold your hand and give you good night kisses. The only way out of that fox hole is to do whatever your tutor tells you to do!

You lose scholarships, grants, and financial aid if you fail and run the risk of being kicked out of college. It's not that hard to fail. You need to have a 2.0 gpa or above which is pretty easy to achieve.

The way it works at my school is if you're below a 1.5gpa (on a 4 point scale) you get placed on dean's vacation. Thats a mandatory year "break" where you cannot take any courses at the university once that year passes you have a meeting with the dean of your faculty where they pretty much just tell you to smarten up and then let you back in. For the first semester upon your return you are on academic probation where if you get below 2.0 in that semester you're out permanently.

If you get below 2.0 but above 1.5 then you're just placed on academic probation, you're not forced to take anytime off but you're in the "danger zone" where if you get below 2.0 while on probation, then you'll be on dean's vacation. Being on probation also restricts the kind of courses you can take and prevents you from switching faculties.

For your course load you should have plenty of time to be able to do if not excellent then at least decent. Something as simple as reviewing each lecture on the day its taught for 15 minutes makes things stick alot more and makes you think. You'll realize whether you need to ask some questions or what you have trouble with. Its best to recognize your weak spots early as opposed to studying 1 or 2 nights before and realizing theres some concepts you don't understand.

While I know alot of ppl say doing the "break" thing has been productive for them I personally can't imagine a break being a positive. People get into a comfort zone of working and then start thinking, "why even go to college" either that or when they do go back (especially for the more difficult technical fields like engineering) can't really get into the immediate mindset necessary to do well.

Just my opinion. I know plenty of ppl who have done the whole break route and done fine but I know another group who have struggled, and I personally couldn't go the break route.

You can't treat college like high school. College usually demands a lot more. Your teachers have higher expectations. Your classmates (on average) are at least a little smarter, and no matter how intelligent you are, you have to work in order to get things done.

You'll get an academic suspension. Just drop the classes that you're doing really bad at - that way they won't count against your GPA.

Try again next semester ;)

Just embrace Nihilism, then college (as well as everything else) won't mean anything to you at all. When you think about it, something is only as important as you believe it to be. Anyhow, whatever decision you make regarding your collegiate career, make sure that you don't make it out of fear of society's rules and consequences, but out of your own desires in life. Society has turned life into nothing more than a narrow, preset path of milestones through which a person becomes nothing more than a conformist drone who can't see beyond the fears imposed upon themself by a life's worth of conditioning. Quite sad.

Meanwhile practice saying, "Would you like fries with that?" Ooooh... the cost of throwing off the conformist shackles, and still have a place to live. :P

The government comes and takes all your money. Then later in life your first born is taken from you and forced into slavery. Seriously tho either buckle down and get the work done or if you're absolutely not going to pass withdraw before you actually do fail and f*** up your gpa. Ask your teachers if there's anything you can do for extra credit and make use of their office hours for stuff you're struggling with. And dont be afraid to use any tutoring programs your school has. It doesn't mean you're stupid by any means and a lot of the time will really really help you out.

You better meet with an adivisor, drop whatever you can drop and probably change majors. If your major is already art or basketweaving you should consider dropping out.

If you fail out of college, then college probably isn't for you. ...it is not for (nor was meant to be for) everyone. It can be a matter of ability, but this is usually not the case. It is more about desire (or lack there of). Furthermore, just b/c it is not 'right' for someone right now does not mean this will always be the case

This is what usually happens at my college. To be honest, if you are failing 2 out of 3 classes, you either need to change something (sleep more, go to class more, study more, go to office hours, stop partying on week nights...) or drop out. Three freshman classes should not be that hard to manage and pass. Some people aren't cut out for college, you may be one of those people.

I don't think you'll be thrown out of college, but be aware of some things:

1. Failing your classes may not be accepted as a reason for withdrawal. That is, some departments/colleges require a "serious and compelling reason" before they'll sign off on your withdrawal. Then you have to take an F. But later, you might be able to get the F's dropped from your record if you re-take the classes and pass them.

2. If you get financial aid in the form of grants or loans, your financial aid may be suspended for violation of the school's satisfactory academic progress policy. I would think you then have to appeal to the financial aid office to get reinstated.
