How would you cope with immortality?

People seem to think that would be pretty boring eventually, but it seems to me like the kind of thing that would get more fun and interesting as it went along. The longer you lived, the more skills you'd acquire, the more versatile you'd become, and by the time you learned all of the available skills of interest the world would have changed enough to have presented new ones.
You'll see everyone you love and know die, while you continue to live. That's not a good thing to see
Anything, or any amount of things to do would get boring eventually. If you could have enough time to master any skill, it would probably lose appeal. As humans, whenever we get what we want, we no longer want it.

This is assuming that entropy isn't the ultimate result of our universe's life.

Of course. Really, this is assuming a lot of things - Immortal includes being ageless, and impervious to injury, for example. And that you will not be limited by things we take for granted such as surpassing the capacity limit of the human brain or becoming insulin resistant over the course of your time.
Depends on the immortality effect.
If i become 100yo, will i be really 100yo or still 20 something?
Can i die from lack of oxygen and mortal wounds? Do i need to eat and drink?
Trying to burn my body to ash? Choped up in tiny pieces?
Can i donate my organs and still live? Do i need my brain?
Radiation poson?
I will get AIDS and infect the world with a new plague
I was going to post, 'I'll kill myself'. But no....
Finding out the different ways I can't die:
Jumping off a cliff
Jumping in a pit filled with spikes
playing some soccer on train tracks
swimming in a pool of acid
holding a grenade for too long
stopping some robberies acting totally badass
beginning a career as a superhero
beginning a career as a supervillain
You'll see everyone you love and know die, while you continue to live. That's not a good thing to see
But you'd meet so many more new people. And seeing people die is part of life. Outliving any children you might bear would be tough, I admit, but the chance to watch their entire lives (as opposed to just their first 60 or so) would be so special, not to mention observing/interacting with your "ancestors", i.e. great-to-the-n'th-power-grandchildren.
And the things you could see, people you could meet, knowledge and power and wealth you could amass...infinite!
The only way it could possibly suck is if it is a " Death Becomes Her" kind of immortality, as in your body doesn't heal or regenerate, but as pieces of you fall off you're still immortal (basically it's like a fully self-aware zombie). I always kind of assume that if you're immortal, you heal and regenerate too. That'd be the only fair way to do it, otherwise whats the point? Eventually you're going to get shot or blown up or hit with car or the world is literally going to get sucked up it's own butt and then you're left floating in the void for eternity.
Also the biggest question, to me at least, is whether or not you are open about it. I mean, you'd have to fake your death if you wanted to keep it secret, I imagine that is tough, coming up with a new identity and stuff. That'd get tiresome every century or so. It'd be cool to be open about it, though, I mean I'm sure some people would try to kidnap you and experiment, but you could be like "Whatever, you're gonna die in 100 years, that's nothing to me do what you want"
Or you could live off the grid, just be a John Doe, never pay taxes. I'd totally become one with the forest; just learn how to live off the land, build myself a small hut next to a stream, learn how to talk to Bears, chill n' stuff.
Meh, I think immortality would be a good deal overall. It'd be the same as it is now, good and bad, just for a long ass time.
Become a hero. Then when I get bored, disappear from history, and create a secret society. Then when I get sick of humanity, use the secret society to "cure" the world. While being an "evil" villain, search for the one true hero that can really save the world and kill me.
Perform science experiments on my self til I come across a solution for aging (Assuming I'd still age, just never be able to die).
When that's taking care of, I'd go back to the drawing board and attempt to create technology/abilities that truly distinguish me from the average mortal. Afterwards, I'd attempt to become a master of all trades (At least the major ones like Medical, Psychology, Construction, Warfare, and Technology) then apply that into becoming a highly skilled Mercenary/Bounty Hunter/Contractor...
And if for some reason I ever lose interest in doing those things (Very highly doubt it. Pretty sure walking into a high tension environment and completing what I set out to do, no matter how improbable success, would forever be a rush) maybe I'll create a space craft capable of interstellar travel and discover new worlds.

I bet that stuff would still hurt. Not dying doesn't excuse you from feeling pain.
I would enrich my life, take on pursuits of knowledge. Sure, I know people who are like "man, you'd get bored of life, durrr", okay, fine, but would you get bored of it within a normal life time or would you get bored when, 150 years into life, 500 years, 1000 years, 10,000 years from now?
World domination.
I would have a politician hit list.
You'd be captured and imprisoned and probably experimented on before long.
Sounds super boring. I sometimes feel as if I've had my fill of life, with nothing left but lesser versions of what I've already experienced. Immortality would make me yearn for the one thing I could not find. An end.
lol have you seen the movie "He Never Died"? Really good Henry Rollins film, but that is basically the story. Guy is so bored with life, can't die. People yell at him and he is like "Meh, OK" and just walks away. He get's shot and just gives an exasperated sigh then kills people lol.
Surprisingly good movie with a very cool twist/surprise at the end.
im assuming its the "will physically stay around the 20-30 age range" type if immortality. the other is pretty horrendus :S. im also going to assume that the end of the world will also put me out of my misery :P.
it would be a bit of a mixed bag.
seeing your loved ones die is also a downer but it wouldnt be enough to put me off the idea. on the one hand it would be pretty bad to see your children grow old and die. but i think if i was immortal my frame of mind would change. i would take comfort in seeing them off, knowing that they had a good life and so on. or perhaps not and a painful lesson to remember for the next time...if there is a next time. the one message immortality would bring home is that people, in the end, only have a lend of each other.
having the time to study various subjects and take the time to specialise in each area that interests you would be cool. whether its hobby or job related it would be cool.
i would also explore the world...maybe walk around it from time to time. save up for 50 years then take 10 years off work for a stroll before studying a new area and working on that area for another 100 years. see whats changed in the world since i last went around.
i think i would also slow down. the world is too busy as it is....trying to keep up over 50 years, never mind 500 years....yeah no thanks. things like deadlines would be irrelevant...thing will get done in their own time. hell after living 10,000 years the person who asked me to do something may die of old age before i get around to it....but ill get it done in its own time. you think valve time is bad? pah...thats way too fast for me :P.
I'd walk around the entire world, and read every book I could.
Seems like a worthwhile thing to do if I couldn't die. That is assuming I could also deflect bullets, not starve or dehydrate, and not die from a dangerous animals.
The human consciousness is not designed for immortality or really long lifespans. Eventually the psychological damage would start adding up (OCD's, unreasonable phobias and philias, being unable to distinguish reality from dreams, etc.) till you went totally insane.
So if I cant die, that means I dont have to worry about my health... meaning cancer and eating healthy. Thats great fucking news.
Secondly... I can **** and even if I get Aids/HIV, it wont do anything to me cause I cant die from it.
Thirdly, I can be involve in combat and deadly striations and keep going no matter what.
BUT we got to be more specific here....Not dying is not the same as never taking damage. For example, yeah I could be in a fire, I could get ebola, etc. and not die BUT... will I still take damage and just keep living under suffering and pain? Like getting chopped in half, yeah I didnt die where I should of have but I still went through the pain and not dont have legs....
Immortality is nothing without invisibility
