What is a roflcopter?

I'm being 100% serious here, what is it? Roll on floor laughing helicopter? How did that even start? Just curious, if someone can give me an answer it would be appreciated. This isn't a joke, I'm serious, I don't get it. You can also explain the significance of using text lingo in regular speech while you're at it.

A roflcopter is when someone is rolling on the floor laughing so hard that they start to spin. Then they begin to fly due to the fast spinning of the rofl.
