Anyone work for the government or know someone that does?

I always thought it would be pretty cool having certain securtiy clearances, and traveling the world and such. Or maybe it's not like that at all?

If you are on the government PERS retirement plan, work 40 years and retire, its sweet. I know a couple of people who work in the government and they have two big gripes about it. One is all the stupid beuracracy they have to put up with and having to go to the state capitol once a week for a meeting. And they will only fly you to the capitol if you are over 3 hours away.

So the one person I know works for an ODOT branch that is 2 and half hours away form Salem. So he has to drive those 2 and half hours once a week.

working for the government means you typically get good benefits, a good wage and you arent forced to work for excessive hours
