what is it with japan and men who look like girls?

One reason I am not fond of japanese works of fiction is that the men always look like woman, any reason why?

It's not 'japanese men looking feminine'. it is a style of japanese art popular in manga and graphic novels called bishonen.

There is a certain character (Mithos) in Tales of Symphonia that I just can't figure out the gender of...

There is a famous Japanese stage show aimed at women where all the roles are played by women (including the men).

Many Bisshies are just like that cos that is the way Japanese women like them. The question is why are men in the west aspiring to a gruff/tough masculine image? Isn't this for the same reasons?
