[QUOTE="Paladin_King"]I had to do a radio interview about this last year, and this is the way I answer this question now whenever it comes up: Two adjectives that are frequently used in a positive sense by extreme metal fans is "true" and "brutal" (or some variation on brutal). If you can truly understand or figure out how "true" and "brutal" can be not only positive adjectives in relation to music, but CRUCIAL and perhaps the most important qualities in music, you will understand the appeal of extreme music. If you can't understand what "true" and "brutal" mean, if you can't understand how either can be positive in music or if you can't grasp how these two elements can be vital in music, you will never understand extreme metal, whether it be thrash, black, death, doom, or whatever. I can't make anyone appreciate extreme music; some people get it, others don't.cyberdarkkid
I don't listen to metal because it's brutal though, I just like it.i agree with cyberdark paladin king, who cares is something is true, and i dont listen to metal for brutality, i could care less about brutality, i care about technical riffs, good riffs, good music and awesome lyrics. speed and brutality are cool, but not the reason why i listen and keep listening.
people that say brutality is why they listen to metal are the mindless moshers that dont even listen to the music, they are just the ones who feed off the energy, no musical taste at all.
and people who argue about if something is " True" are just the elitists that hate on bands because they are new / different or any other reason they can come up with to devalue an artists integrity or musical value.
