I use BitDefender, it seems to work pretty well. Though I don't download porn or torrents, so I'm not at a huge risk of contracting viruses. What do you use? What is the best?

Used to use AVG but read they've gone downhill the last few years. So I switched to Avira. I like it, haven't had any problems;

[QUOTE="magicalclick"]I am using MSE, assuming you have an illegal copy of Windows, otherwise you need something else. Porn is impossible to have virus, unless your porn is a game or something. If you try to put virus in a jpeg or mpeg, your photo viewer or movie player will just said they cannot play the file. As long as it is not, EXE, Flash, Acrobat PDF, Office, there are very few widely used file format that actually "supports" viruse.

A legal copy, I assume ..?

I use Avira and it has been good so far. I have read, from PC Gamer, that Norton is one of the best paid anti-virus programs out there.

I have Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security. Works great. I've used a bunch of free ones before. Trend Micro is a lot better, but it costs $.

Avira works great. I've been using it 3 years now. You just need to update it time to time. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.

Norton 360 5.0. It gets a bad rep becouse people still rememeber how bad it was at 2.0, but today its actually one of the better programs out there.

There is no best, but Nod32 is good for a paid AV, while MSE or Panda Cloud are decent free ones.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot Search & Destroy. No problems here.

I used to have Kaspersky. It was amazing at first... then with one update my system's performance suddenly plummeted. My boot time, once 50 seconds, was now 4 minutes. So I uninstalled and switched to MSE.

If I were willing to get a paid antivirus again, I would proably go for NOD32 instead. We used it at the place I used to work. Dead brill, but MSE is fine for my needs atm.

Out of the free ones, Malware Bytes and Av ira Free work great. For paid AV-software, I think Vipre is the only one that works decently and doesn't require a lot of ram to run. Truth is, if you browse safely, there's truly no risk of getting infected.

I have been using AVG since it first came around and I've had no problems. I'm a low risk user though. My brother had AVG on his computer and got a virus, but he fell for one of those "your computer is infected, download this to get right of it" pop-ups. More his fault than the anti-virus.

I've tried most of the big names. Of those, I highly recommend BitDefender and Panda Antivirus. Neither of which affect my boot time and offer adequate protection if updated.

I have been using AVG since the early 2000's, then tried Kaspersky and liked it for about a year but bought a new computer and switched back to AVG. I also use Malware Bytes and Spybot Search & Destroy. For computer speed I use BootSpeed, it defrags like a beast. Also knowing what sites you visit and what's being downloaded on your system is the main way of avoiding viruses and malware.

Easily Microsoft Security Essentials. With MSE, there's simply no reason to purchase an AV program unless you're wanting security suite services and such. At the retail level, I'd go with Kaspersky.

And it's a resource hog with a terrible detection rate. Your lack of getting infected is likely more attributable to internet savvy than anything else.

You should never have two anti-virus programs installed at the same time (unless you're willing to manually disable one every time you use the other), as they can cause all sorts of nasty conflicts and won't do much (if anything) to boost your detection rate.

Personally, I'm a big fan of ESET Smart Security 4/NOD 32. It works extremely well, strikes a nice balance between user-friendliness and depth of options, is extremely lightweight and is pretty reasonably priced.

I don't know how well it detects problems... but it isn't a resource hog. One of the reasons I like it is because it DOESN'T slow down my computer like some other programs out there...

My preference is Norton. It seems to pick out certain things that all the other ones don't. That doesn't mean it's better than the other Anti-Virus programs, it's just what I prefer :)
