Although closely related, I do not mean sci-fi. No Star Wars, Star Trek etc. etc. Is it Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit (soon to be a live action movie), Forgotten Realms (my fave), Dragonlance, The Twins trilogy, Otherland, others? What is your fave?

Possibly The Dark Tower or A Song of Ice & Fire.

I've always felt the LOTR movies were more entertaining than the books.

Sword of Truth series, althought there are some striking similiarities with the Lord of the Rings.

I started reading night-watch like the first few chapters and then watched the movie... Biggest mistake of my life... still plan on reading the book once the memory of the movie fades away.

it's a tie between Robert E. Howard's Chronicles of Conan and Tolkein's LoTRs. Howard is more entertaining, but Tolkein is more subtle.

Artemis Fowl is my favorite and possibly one of the most underrated fantasy series out there.

This book is Fantastic too, its written by David Gemmel, I didnt read the two books preceding this one telling the main characters storybut it didnt matter, it was still an epic story and it gave you enough information to where you still understood.
I actually didnt know till now that there were books telling of the characters past, i must check them out =O

The Lord of the Rings, what kind of question is this?! Its like saying, "Hey, who is the Godliest being in the universe?", yet knowing God exists (not literally, of course).

Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, LotR (do i need to mention the authors name?), Forgotten Realms novels by a variety of authors, Dragonlance.. not trying to flame the fans but the Inheritance Cycle is now horrendously overrated in my opinion : /
