So I was recently accepted into my local state University, and am in the process of choosing my major.. If I wanted to work at a company like Intel, IBM and such, working on computer technology like processors, what would be the best field to study? Computer Engineering? Computer Science? OR something else?

agreed. But if you just want a job "kinda like that", then go computer engineering. Computer Science is like computer engineering except they don't have as much prestige and they don't get paid as much. And that "Professional Engineer" designation will make your career a breeze.

Computer Engeneering. It is mostly focused on hardware, Computer Science is better for those who want to become programmers.

Ya, I'm assuming people who graduate from State college in computer engineering are making processors for off brand calculators.

Really? I mean I know I won't be making calculators with a degree in computer engineering but if it's not a desirable career I will go with something else

computer engineering - putting the hardware together, think of this like a 'computer mechanic' computer science - programming the software computer information systems - setting up a database system for a server computer technology - handling the administrative duties of the software system You don't need to go to MIT, don't listen to them. You just have to work hard and be good at it.

i think u should go to computer engineering. i think it would be best. u can take a double major; computer science and computer engineer. that might take a little bit longer to do.

this is not to bust or bubble or anything but u might end up doing something like working some where totally different to what u wanted to work. my brother had a double major(music and sound recording). he graduated and he works at a vegetarian place full time. it had nothing to do with recording or music. it might just be him though. my family tells him to go to the local news station and radio stations.

A lot of people who go to MIT graduated from a state university. It's not about where you get your undergraduate degree, guys. Most people that "go places" without the influence of connections have a master's or a doctorate. I agree though, the Computer Engineering major is probably for you.

computer engineering is the way to go. dont listen to they guys saying you will be making off brand calculators. computer science and engineerings are treated well. on average the starting salary for a computer engineer is $64,874 a year. (the is a penn state graduate statistic from their coop program. i dont know if applies to all areas.) just do what you wanna do.
