Well, treat it like any other class: pay attention (take notes if it helps), do the homework well, and study for the quizzes and tests. I haven't taken any Spanish classes before, but I can't imagine that what I mentioned wouldn't be exactly what you should do.
I'm in Spanish 2, I have the best grade in my class, which is easy, and yet I hardly know any conversational Spanish. Just fly by on what is currently being tought to you, and hope that the teacher's expectation are so low that he perpetually goes over things and doesn't expect you to retain anything. That's my secret.
Wow thats a toughy. You might want to do something I just learned about. It turns out, when you open a book and read notes..you are preparing for a test :o It's known as studying.
