I've pondered this question for years....why the hell do people find Friends so goddamn funny? I always thought the humour was really stupid and was more for people who are easily amused. Please don't tell me I'm the only one....
I remember when that show started in the UK and everyone was like "This is so funny" and I was all, no it isn't, and people continued to think it was funny. The programme is just 6 shallow and 2-dimensional characters living boring lives and using the same jokes over and over.
The thing about Friends is...that it was all set up around the gags so much it became unrealistic and I feel went against the show...saying that if the jokes were funny...it would not be a problem...but they so are not
I think it's brilliant. It's the charecters that make it so good, they are all real and belivable and the things that happen within the group can be easily related to. You get to know the charcters and the group so well that you get all the jokes and subleties. But it is something you have to get into (like most sitcoms) to really enjoy

How are they "shallow" and 2 dimensional? Rachel may be a sterotype alot of the time, but the rest aren't, and frankly there are alot of Rachel like charecters in the world anyway, so it hardly matters
i had never watched it before and my mates where sort of shocked that i hadn't then i took a look and it got a few chuckles out of me but it didn't register to me as anything "special"

My girlfriend loves the show. She got me to start watching a few of the seasons with her and i gotta admit that the show grows on you. You kind of have to have an appreciation for the characters to understand the humor. Its alright i guess.
