Between either:

1. Enormous lightning strike right by my apartment in the middle of the night. The accompanying thunder scared the s*** out of me. Thunderstorms never bother me... I love them... but this was so goddamn f***ing loud... I've never been so scared in my life... I mean only for a split second, but f***. For the entire day afterwards, if someone or something made a loud-ish noise, I'd freak out... like I had mini-PTSD or something.

2. I had to get to my plane across the tarmac, and there was a business jet just chilling, between me and my plane.... and it was doing run-ups or something before taxiing... I didn't want to go around the front so I just walked right behind it and the engines. Couldn't hear anything for a while after that. :P

3. Supersonic wind tunnel at my university that we used for a few compressible flow experiments. I actually have no idea just how loud it was since I had to wear ear protection. But it sounded loud!

I haven't been to a shuttle launch in about a decade, at least not very close. As far as I remember, the sound wasn't the highlight. In around 1998/99, when I was still a kid, I went to a night launch. Everything light up brighter than 12pm sun for a short while. Absolutely phenomenal thing.

That's cool. It was fairly bright daylight when I saw it, so it didn't really light anything up. I believe I saw it in 2000.

I think so. It set the house alarm off. Nukes would do that.

We have a small airport in front of our house, they used to do an air show every year, when I was young (I think 6), one of the pilots screwed up and crashed. The whole block shook, it was insane, I still remember my grandma and I walking into the house and right before, it just crashed. Unfortunately the pilot died.

Military fighter jets going faster than the sound barrier a couple hundred feet over my head. I was at the Long Beach Grand Prix when this happened. I thought those Indi cars were loud, boy was I wrong!

An electricity box in my street exploded once. That or when I stood next to a speaker for an entire Justice Crew performance. Couldn't hear for like 2 days.

Having some fighter jets flying right above me at an airshow. I was just walking around some displays and then I see a plane pass overhead and think; "Oh wow, I wonder when the noise is going to hi-"KA ****ING BOOMHSGFDLAEWFHEWI.." My organs felt like they had been rattled around.

It's between a shuttle launch, a house exploding beside me, or lightning striking beside my house. Lightning strike was the one I clearly remember, so I'll go with that.

When I was younger my oldest brother stole a car with some friends and went on a joy ride.

My answer to this question is my mother, after the cops brought him home.

Being Ex-Navy, I've been exposed to everything from Jets, gun and heavy ship artillery.

Oddly enough, I still have good hearing.

1. Lightning strike next to my home. 2. Flying in a chopper with the doors open (great view too, pilot buzzed some people) 3. Transformer on a utility pole blew up. 4. Ice cracking on a frozen ocean. It's very loud when you're 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

One big difference is usually you're expecting the TNT since you know it's lit, but you never expect those darn transformers to explode.:P

Your mothe-naah I can't say that. Probably some guns, I went shooting with my uncle when I was about 12 and I still remember one rifle that I fired that literally blew me back about 2 foot, the stools there were chained down and it shot me back far enough for the chain to pull tight and I almost fell off the stool.
