I have my answer, what do you think?purpleRz
To survive. pretty odd question to ask, you should know what money is for.
And what is your answer?
What i am saying is that we could live without money, get rid of completely but then what would happen?purpleRz
We would drop back to the feudal era and have serfs tending the fields of their lord.
I think that everything should be free. You work hard, get whatever you want. Go to EB games and get whatever you want.cfamgcn
If you have to work hard to get what you want, than it isn't free.
To be used as a proxy for the purchase of goods or services in the absence of a barter system.foxhound_fox
techincally it's not a proxy for anything anymore. it's just what our governments tell us is legal tender. money is now just the faith that we have in it that others will accept it.

Yup. I guess you're right :P
But still, you would get a huge discount in everything
Paper/Coin money is the medium of exchange best accepted all over the world in trades between two people. Paper money, at least our US Dollar, is nothing more than an I.O.U.
The purpose of money is also to bring whole nations and it's people to its knees by way of debt.
because we trade. And supposedly money certificates represent gold. Which was true long ago, but I don't believe so anymore.
So to answer your question... paper bills are much lighter than gold coins and much easier to carry too.

Now it's just Legal Tender.....worthless paper backed by absolutely nothing. Thin air!!! lol

Yeh so money is just a concept like a points system where if you do A then you are rewarded with B. So its really an insentive to work, then it allows us to have some choice what we buy in society, really clever tool in society to keep as all happy and ticking along.... But instead of money we could all get paid in food and clothes at the end of each working day ?
I wonder if a group of leaders of whatever come up with these ideas in some secret meeting or so years ago.......

Money isn't required for a society to work, but there will always be the need for a bartering system.

Money doesn't need to be backed by a gold standard. It represents the amount of work you have done, not some arbitrary element that we decided is valuable. Money and gold have value because we say it has value.
Technically, there is no purpose to money, in the sense that money, if you really think about it, isn't worth anything. A dollar is just a slip of paper with a dead president on it. Gold has actual value, your iPod has actual value, but what's the real value of money? Of course, a barter system is too inaccurate to work (and I'd rather carry a wallet full of cash then a backpack full of tradeable goods).Opalescentand can you tell me how people purchase an iPod? and Gold is just a piece of rock that's shiny

The onyl thing that gives it value right now is how much of it is in circulation, but then agin this itself is one reason why inflation is high and. Just one reason.
