A good number of posts I see on this board are about how society is terrible and how humans have a delusional view of reality. I mean, wtf? Do all of you really think this?

Meh, screw society. As cliche` as this sounds, as long as I have my girl I reall don't mind what society does or doesn't do. At least not now. Kind of like I have a permanent caul over my head to society. xD

Also, most of us are basement dwellers. We don't have friends and lovers to take our mind of the crap of society. Unlike you social people who are too busy enjoying life, we criticize the way people do it...

Most humans do have a delusional view of reality. They think they can find something permanent to grasp onto when there is nothing permanent... at all. Everything changes.

I believe society is like a wall. And old wall with multiple coats of paint. At the top you see a flossy coat of paint. It is beautiful, it is strong and bright in color. But there are blemishes, there are cracks, and the dying undercoat rears its ugly face through those imperfections.
In today's society, you will see a lot of genuinely nice people, just trying to get through peacefully without any trouble. They contribute to society; poetry, architecture, music, art; everything that makes us human. But occasionally you will see the effed up idiot who is nothing but a blemish on society.

It's dumb to think that society is perfect, or functional in any way. PEOPLE are evil... A person isn't... When people get together, destruction soon ensues... This is egaturating of course, but you catch my drift.........

That doesn't mean society is good. That means he has fans. Hitler had his fans, he made some people happy, but was he good for society?

Yes, I do see humanity and society as terrible, cannibalistic and fascist to some extent. Enforcing conformity leads to nothing but stagnant culture, yet everybody seems pretty content with it. Or at least the people who have power.

its not the best analogy, but a lot of people think he is killing rap music, thus ending people's happiness. And really, the Soulja Boy thing was a joke I don't think you picked up on...

Ironically, Hitler said the same thing. "We are not harming human beings." That was his entire campaign; that they weren't harming anyone. He was dehumanizing his enemies. But still, comparing soulja boy to Hitler is a stretch. That's not what he was doing, though, he was arguing against popularity. ;)

I can't stand our celeb obsessed pop culture here in society. There are too many problems with our society, ranging from the modern issue of celeb obsession to our insanely outdated portrayals of men and woman that drive our society mad.

It's funny how people go on about how female role models cause bad self esteem and whatnot, yet the male role model is a MUCH BIGGER ISSUE. Not only do you get bad self esteem going around in kids who aren't big and burly, but where do you think the violence in guys comes from? All our heroes are uber violent and as much as I hate to admit it it effects us all to a degree...

Absolutely agree. Great wording. Thats what I meant by "unable to think critically", people are just like sheep how they follow trends/anything that is "in" (which could be anything in the entertainment industry, specifically).

Soulja boy has hurt a vast amount of teenage minds with his overated party music, he contributes to alot of the idiocy in the teenage culture today.

Even I think that's kind of a stretch... the general "teenage idiocy" you describe could be caused by a lot of different kinds of music or TV shows.

It was. Still, I think society's biggest flaw at the moment is popular culture and celebrities. How do they improve society? Yes, they make good movies, but worshipping them does nothing but bring us down.

And? What's wrong with that? Are these people hurting you by following whatever's 'in' at the moment? Sure, they're being stupid, but if that's how they wish to live their lives, let them. Throughout history, people have always followed the crowd, even if their own opinions differ, simply because no one wants to be a martyr. It's not like you can blame them; I sure as hell don't like being left out in the cold, and I'm sure you don't either.

I'm not going to act like you're wrong; I agree with you. All I'm saying is that conforming isn't that big of a deal, and it's certainly nothing new.

[QUOTE="yellowandmushy"]A good number of posts I see on this board are about how society is terrible and how humans have a delusional view of reality. I mean, wtf? Do all of you really think this?Stalicon

Yes, I do see humanity and society as terrible, cannibalistic and fascist to some extent. Enforcing conformity leads to nothing but stagnant culture, yet everybody seems pretty content with it. Or at least the people who have power.

Absolutely agree. Great wording. Thats what I meant by "unable to think critically", people are just like sheep how they follow trends/anything that is "in" (which could be anything in the entertainment industry, specifically).

Monkey see, monkey do.

Conforming is a big deal, it prevents potentially good ideas from getting to the top. It creates a culture that goes absolutely nowhere and people who can't think for themselves. And following the crowd is what the Germans did in the 1930's, and the Romans in the 1st century. Oh, did I mention Salem Witch Hunts? Yep, conformism doing its job.

I should've been clearer. I ment teens following whatever's 'in' wasn't a big deal, not just conformism in general.
