Mine is the wonderful album above, Death Grips - The Money Store. It's experimental hip-hop and Death Grips are unlike anything I can describe. You can get their second album, NO LOVE DEEP WEB, for free off their website. What is your AOTY?

Is it that good? I've never listened to Carrie Underwood and I don't really like Country, but I'm open to trying something new.blown away by carrie underwood. only album ive bought this year.

[QUOTE="despa1r_fact0r"]Is that really any good? Considering I was fun but II meh I felt like I was just a fun experiment, II was an actual attempt at a good solid album and was a lot better in a lot of ways but kinda less for fun. III seems to be very heavy on improving the actual music again.
Dethkolk - Dethalbum III

Although I Ejaculate Fire is one of the funniest songs ever.
That's in my top 10. Fantastic follow up to Veckatimest.KEITH1437
Shields clicked with me much quicker than Veckatimest did. Took me a few months to see what was so great about it. Shields, on the other hand, grabbed me right away. It starts and ends with some of the best songs I've heard all year.
Since you brought it up, what is your top 10 at the moment?

Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse 5. Swans - The Seer 6. Andy Stott - Luxury Problems 7. Grizzly Bear - Shields 8. Mouse On Mars - Parastrophics 9. Zammuto - Zammuto 10. BADBADNOTGOOD - BBNG2 Death Grips just blew me away this year. Seeing them live in two weeks. Ty Segall didn't click at first, but that's mainly because I expected more like Hair. Andy Stott just came out, though considering his albums from last year were in my top 10 of 2011, his new album is just as good as those if not even better.
[QUOTE="Niff_T"]Grizzly Bear - ShieldsKEITH1437That's in my top 10. Fantastic follow up to Veckatimest. I've been considering buying this, I've heard many positive things about it. How is it like, exactly? Also, On topic, i'm waiting on Deftones' Koi No Yokan to see what could change.
Visions by Grimes. Really close between that, Born To Die by Lana Del Rey and Unknown Rooms by Chelsea Wolfe though.
I've been really out of touch this year, so the only album from 2012 that I remember really buying is The Money Store.

I preffered Death Grips first album to be honest. But that's probably because it had the more accessible stuff on it.
Liked parts of JJ Doom. Retarded Fren, Guv'nor and Banished were great, but the rest was fairly ho-hum.
I'm really not sure. Just been waiting for Madvillain 2 and DoomStarks to drop. Keen on Earls new album now that he's moved on from OF's crappy aesthetic.
Exmilitary is actually a close third to NLDW for me. Just a few okay tracks, and then the rest is golden. Spread Eagle Cross The Block was mind blowing for me last year. Next year should be a great year for hip-hop with Earl, Madvillian, and Deltron 3030. I hope Shabazz Palaces and Dalek also put out new releases next year.I preffered Death Grips first album to be honest. But that's probably because it had the more accessible stuff on it.

Yeah it's hard to get into these dudes (unless it's Guillotoine which just makes you nod your head instantly) but the stuff they do is so damn interesting.
Loving Victory Laps by Doomstarks at the moment, Avalanche sounds fantastic too. Madvillain will dominate next year
Don't really have one that stands out as head and shoulders above the rest (although I've just started listening to Kendrick Lamar), but the short list would be:
- Purity Ring- Shrines (probably would've been my pick if they didn't release half the album as free singles beforehand)
Slow_Show
I'm with you. I still really really like that album (probably my 2nd favorite of the year), but I would've been much more blown away by it if I wasn't aware of Purity Ring until the album actually came out as a whole
Also:
Blacklisters - BLKLSTRS
Gallows - Gallows
Future of the Left - The Plot Against Common Sense
Death Grips - The Money Store
DZ Deathrays - Bloodstreams
Django Django - Django Django
Pulled Apart By Horses - Tough Love

Death Grips Album was pretty good and I'm not a massive hip-hop/rap fan so That's saying something.
I listen to alot of music but I don't really follow the release dates so I'm sure I've listen to more albums that I liked over the year but
and
Squarepusher-Ufabulum
Are the only ones I keep coming back to consistently.

Square's new album wasn't that good in the view of a Warp fanboy like myself. I loved Dark Steering, but the album as a whole lacked that creativity that he had on other albums. Felt too cold and influenced by this generations electro.

nice to see someone else like Warp, Do you know of any other record labels similar to Warp? Anyway I liked Ufabulum alot, particularly after his 2 previous albums which were really disappointing, I will say though that Ufabulum felt quite repetitive though and his slower stuff seemed more like afterthoughts. My favorite will always be Go Plastic though... Or maybe Ultravistor Or Feed Me Weird Things... hard to say.Cafe Tacuba: El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco
