Saw that a little while ago, great film.

I can't decide between Rosemary's Baby or The Shining.

I'm inclined to say Rosemary's Baby, as I watched it a few nights ago. Yeah, I'll go with that.. or Repulsion, Don't Look Now, and The Shining.
or The Innocence >_>
IT. That movie traumatized me for years!Pearl_of_Egypt
i've heard a lot of people say that, but i didn't think it was at all that scary. i enjoyed the movie though.

i've only seen an average amount of horror films (new and old) so i'm going to go with The Exorcist.

I love lots of old horror movies, but can never find them scary. They're just not. I love Stephen King, all of those movies were great. The Shining was somewhat lame, though. Don't shoot me, I just didn't find it scary or twisted enough for my liking. The best scene in pet sematary (I hate how they spelled it :/ ) is when
the little boy gets hit by the truck. That was an amazing moment. The way it made me bring my hands to my mouth and gasp without showing gore or blood or anything, but still horrifying me quite thoroughly, was great.
You rarely see that in movies anymore.

i didn't think The Shining was that scary either, but i think the reason it is good is because the guy starts out sane and just steadily goes f***ing crazy. the part where his wife saw what he had been typing was a mindf*** for me. i didn't see the whole movie but i saw most of it and i enjoyed it. "Here's Johnny!" made me laugh :P

Reanimator, or The Fog off the top of my head. Used to quite like Hellraiser too, or Nightmare on Elm Street (first one).

The Shining is epic. Aside from that, I liked Alien and The Thing (if they count as horror).

If I had to pick just one, I'd have to go with Repulsion as the seediest and downright creepiest film I've ever seen.

Honourable mentions: The Exorcist, Don't Look Now, Halloween, M, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Dracula - with Jack Palance - he was a great Dracula, evil and scary.

Halloween (the original) - "You can't kill the boogeyman." Plus the music really creeped me out.

The Thing (original) - saw it when I was 12 and it traumatized me for years. Never knew I was scared of a giant carrot! ;)

IT - Tim Curry was great as the clown but the ending was a disappointment.

Poltergeist - I remember coming out of the theater shaking.

Night on Bald Mountain (from Fantasia) - my first real creep-out. The devil and all those naked witches and ghosts heading up the mountain.... Funny, but if I hear the music I still turn it off.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien, The Exorcist, The Thing, An American Werewolf in London, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Fly.

The only two films that actually had an impact on me in recent years are Exorcism of Emily Rose and Insidious.

Night of Living Dead for me as well. It wasn't technically the first Zombie film, but it definitely established the zombie sub-genre, and look where it is now.

The Shining I vote the best but The Thing, Amityville 1 & 2, and An American Werewolf in London scared the sh** out of me when I was really young. And yes, my dad let me watch these at like 5. Nothing happened, I'm a perfect serial kille... I mean perfectly normal. ;)

The Howling. I'd put AWiL but the comedy detracts from the horror. The Howling just builds in intensity and uneasiness the whole movie, and I think the effects are better.

Burnt Offerings scared me more than any of the modern horror movies that I had watched up until that point.
