What is your opinion on Opeth?

Recently, I decided to give them a listen. I listened to The Grand Conjuration and Porcelain Heart. I liked these enough to buy some of there albums, and because Deliverance and Damnation were so cheap I bought those two. I discovered they are good band, I was surprised since I don't really like any other death metal that I have heard.

Feel free to post your opinion on them good or bad.

(Just to pre-empt this, I am aware that they do non-death metal songs and Damnation is all non-death metal)

I used to have that opinion, but I guess they have changed my opinion on the entire genre to a certain degree.

im a fan. i have blackwater park and i d/led some. im a death metal fan but i actually mainly like their slow stuff. i cant really feel the death vox foreal. its too peacful to be brutalLord_Ifrit

anyways, i love Opeth, they're one of my favorite bands

I find them to be incredibly boring.. The songwriting is dull to me, their "clean parts" seems to be randomly thrown in just to make the songs longer, I don't really care for the sound/production etc.

The singer is pretty good though, I liked his parts on that Ayreon album..
