This thread isn't about your normal religious people, religious moderates. It's about religious fundamentalists, those (IMO) crazy people who says the funniest things, but strike fear into my hearts when they run the country.

Fundamentalism

Or

TLDR def.

Then again, I know some of them, and they're actually pretty cool people, as long as you don't begin discussing religion with them. What do you people think?

Just as there are different degree's of Christians or what have you, there are different degrees of atheists. I'm talking about the kind that are all in your face, anti-religion everything and if you are are religious, you must be an idiot, etc. You can be an atheist without being extreme about it.

I agree with waffle. They can believe whatever they want. They hold the right to do that, but their ideologydoesn't belong in politics.

No, there are no degrees of atheism. Atheism is a lack of belief in god. What you describe is how people act, not the belief system itself.

Just as there is with atheism. There are atheists who believe in an afterlife, atheists who believe aliens created the world through intelligent design, atheists who believe in reincarnation, atheists who believe in a temporal spirit, atheists who flat-out believe none of the aforementioned could possibly exist, atheists who believe nothing that exists is meaningful, atheists who believe humanity has the potential to become godlike, and on and on and on. . . .

And just like with Christianity, they all have at least one thing in common.

How do they bother less? The most you're gonna get from a "fundamentalist" atheist is "God doesn't exist". With the religious fundamentalist you get to hear different variants of "You are going to suffer an eternity in hell if you don't accept my God" plus oodles and oodles of various biblical verses.

Considering that this topic from the very get-go was about religious fundamentalists as much as it was about religious fundamentalism, considering that there are a number of negative comments made about this group of people, and considering that there are a number of people who might be described as such who are GameSpot members, I don't think this thread is appropriate.
