You know those people that are hired by major stores like walmart just to stand by the doors and greet/say goodbye to the customers? These guys drive me crazy! It seems like kind of a useless job to be honest. What do you guys think of them?

thoughts when i see them? " These people are way too friendly and social. Must be a nice job though doing nothing all day."
I thought they tend to give those jobs to the elderly? Which is definitely a good way to keep them occupied.
An institutionalised leviathan like Wal-Fart will do whatever they think will lube customers up and boost sales. Try negotiating prices with a checkout cow and see how far that gets you. If the weird looks aren't bad enough, the in-house cop will surely dampen your day.
I don't like them much, I feel obligated to give a false smile and a cheerful hello even when I'm in no mood to do so. Walmart just gives them jobs to keep the radical coroporation haters off their back.GmasterREDThat's not at all why Walkmart hires them....
Every time I walk into a walmart, either they're just standing there or there arent any greeters there.
Well I bet if you were rich you would hire hookers to stand at the entrance of your house and greet people as they come and go, too.Nerd_Man
Yes but my hookers would not wear diapers and have to rinse their teeth out after eating fruit.
*EDIT*
Well...maybe one of them *wink wink*

We are helping old people and handicaped people who otherwise would not have a job." It makes them the good guys.

Don't you dare mock my hookers.
1. Walmart knows what they are doing (#1 employer in the world) 2. they 'check in' returned merchandise (which helps with #3) 3. they help with loss prevention 'theft' 4. they provide jobs for old people that struggle to make it on social security ...I fail to see the issue TCrawsavonI agree. A good friend of mine works at the pharmacy in a local Walmart and she's confirmed this. There have been a few times she had to do the job and has stopped people from stealing as well.

And Mrs. Walton let you in on all her hiring strategies after only six years? That's a damn good job your doing, way to climb the corporate ladder.

Kind of like the ticket collectors at movie theaters..seems to require a wheel chair or mental disorder to work that job.
The ticket collectors usually just do that when needed. People who work at theaters do a lot of different jobs, at least I've noticed at the one near me. My friend sold tickets, worked the popcorn/candy counter, swept, set the movies up, just depended on what needed to be done.[QUOTE="GmasterRED"][QUOTE="rawsavon"] I mean I only worked there for 6 years...but we will go with your informed opinion on the matter :roll:rawsavonIf we want to talk about informed opinions friend0, my sister worked there for twice as long as you. Number 2, of course they care what the public thinks. There is an entire group of people who refuse to shop at walmart due to perceived injustices in the company's benefits and paying practices. Door greeters don't HAVE to be there. I once saw a lady who looked 100 years old in a wheel chair just sitting there waving at nobody. They had a person standing behind her to watch her. That is not crafty book efficient hiring, that is PR work. I'll take your word on your buddy's working at walmart.

That is not crafty book efficient hiring, that is PR work. I'll take your word on your buddy's working at walmart. They do not care what the people that run those anti-walmart sites think...at all -especially in these times, people can't afford to shop anywhere else They don't care about the bad publicity concerning unions, shutting stores down for trying to unionize, low pay, crappy benefits, buying mostly Chinese goods...none of it. The only things they have shown any interest on are the equal promotions based on sex and race...that's it You know why they don't care on the other stuff...b/c they don't have to (their model works like a charm) They pay an old person $7-10 an hour to watch the front of the store and check in returned merchandise (so it is harder to cheat on returned items) -if they prevent 1-2 items a day that was their paycheck and if they prevented some theft by their presence alone, well that is an added benefit -they work them part time to avoid paying most of the benefits -it is an easy call on their part ...and you think it is about PR
Uhh they are usually disabled or old people who can't do anything else. I think it is nice that they want to work and wal-mart is actually kind enough to hire them....I don't see how anyone can have any type of ill will towards them.:|

I agree. I actually see this as a very nice thing wal-mart does.

Why on Earth would you try to haggle about prices with someone who has no say so over them at all?
in my country we have nothing like that, to say bye and have a nice day the person working at the register will doYou know those people that are hired by major stores like walmart just to stand by the doors and greet/say goodbye to the customers?
