Back when I was younger, I drank tremendous amounts of alcohol, but nowadays, I tend to limit myself as to how much I drink though I still can put a six pack away with no problem.
I have an ultra high tolerance for everything except vodka, and I can still go 20 shots deep... I have killed an enitre bottle of brown liqour and still had some beers after...
On average, I can drink an entire 30 pack of normal beer and come back for more... and I have soloed many 12 packs of Steel Reserve...
Have I gone overboard? God yes, including a funny story with a beer bong and a bottle of Jack Daniels...
BTW, I am 22 years old. Don't drink and drive. Don't drink underage...
I'm currently a lightweight.I rarely drink so when I do, it doesnt take much.
sonicare
Actually, your tolerance level goes down the more you drink... the liver gets weaker from all the abuse...

While alcohol can certainly damage your liver, the more you drink the more you upregulate certain enzymes that process alcohol. So that's why people get more tolerant. I know anesthesiologists have to give more anethesia to heavy drinkers because their livers process the chemicals much faster than nondrinkers.[QUOTE="heysharpshooter"]

But I am sure you are right... I haven't done any research and do not claim authority... just something I heard and assumed was true cause I thought thats what I was seeing with my mom's husband...
I dont drink. Pretty much everyone i know thinks they're a lad because they drink. I only really have a can or 2 during Wales rugby matches but thats it.
7 pints or so is usually the peak of my drunkeness. More than that and I start becoming an incoherent embarassing mess.
I don't really drink anymore, I may have a pint or 2 at special occasions but other than that I don't drink.
When I did I could have about 8 or so pints before I satrted to really feel it taking effect, and I've never had a hangover :D
I'm Mexican what do you think? Also i don't ever remember having a hangover..............X360PS3AMD05Is Corona like the official beer of your people or what? I personally think it tastes like dirty water. The lime makes it tollerable, but I still would never ever order one.
depends on the rate I am drinking at. I've been known to have 20 beers in a night, but that was over a span of like six hours and it was crappy stuff like Coors. I cant get drunk off Bud or Coors or Miller, etc
Conversely, when I go to down to my local beer bar, I can have like 3-5 stronger, good beers and not feel comfortable driving home.
It depends on a lot of things; how tired/awake I am, the last time I ate, the kind of mood I am in, and so forth.
but to answer your question, I'd say my tolerance is pretty damn high. Alcohol is a beautiful part of life, I love it, and cant imagine life without it (at least a happy life)

Hell yes to your last comment!I drink constantly, but I have an insanely low tolerance for my size. 6 good beers and I'm pretty drunk (GOOD beers. None of that Budweiser, Coors, or Miller crap). 4 shots of Vodka and I'm good.cd_romI must say, Gamespot OT has the most finicky beer drinkers I've ever seen in my life. When I go out, 95% of what I see people drinking is either Miller Lite, Bud Light, or Pabst Blue Ribbon. You guys must be drinking at the country club or something.

no, I drink at a hole in a wall only regulars drink at :P
beer is so tasty, and Bud/Coors/Miller etc are just rediculous in how poor quality they are relative to the thousands of beers out there brewed to hundreds of different styles.
Everyone has to start somewhere. I started on Natty Light, Bud Light, and Miller (shivers....champagne of beers my ass). But then I started homebrewing and my world was opened up to good beer. Then I got a job as a brewer and, well, pursuing and producing good beer has consumed my life.
I love me a PBR for dessert...but for dinner I drink a nice Belgian ale, a hoppy San Diego-style DIPA, or a smooth amber ale.
I am not going to insult anyone, but people only drink Dingo Piss (the cheap crap) because A.) its all they know, B.) marketing, C.) theyre afraid to leave their comfort zone, and D.) in their defense, there are a lot of challenging beers to drink (I r emember the first time I had a bitter pale ale, I thought it was awful). People are not necessarily ignorant, just naive, to the fact that there is so much better stuff out there for decent prices.
That and, as you said, people drinking good beer are seen as finicky lol. If you drink Budweiser youre a good ol' American boy, but if you get caught drinking some obscure sour ale from Russian River Brewing in some fancy-but-appropriate-to-style glass youre a snob
Well, I will be a "snob". I like having standards :D

Not really what I was getting at. I drink Miller Lite because of the two most important factors, I like the taste the best, and I get a very good drunk feeling with no side effects from it. I've had all sorts of beers from all sorts of places, but they either A) taste like crap or B) make you feel like you just drank a full buffet dinner. The main point that I was getting at is that most of the "fancy" beer drinkers I've met aren't really drinkers at all. They are the status types. Now if someone wants to saddle up at a bar stool next to me and pound them down with some good conversation, who the hell am I to judge? Just making an observation.[QUOTE="BrianB0422"]I must say, Gamespot OT has the most finicky beer drinkers I've ever seen in my life. go rent beer wars.
Budweiser, etc purchases about 90% of the shelf space in the beer shelf department of grocery stores. They even make new kinds of beer (i.e. Bud Select) that are identical to prior beers, simply so they can have shelf space.
it only seems like you have to go to a country club to get good beer, but you only have to go as far as a well-stocked corner or liquor store.
but, if you look hard, you can see a few good beers there, sitting beside those titans of mediocrity. There are also tons of small stores that carry good selections. Just look around.

Different experiences I guess. Most of the educated beer drinkers I know are exactly what you describe (the kind that saddle up toa bar stool and drink with good conversation).
Thats half the reason I like beer; its the new camp fire. Hundreds of years ago our ancestors would huddle around the campfire and swap stories, jokes, etc. We do the same, just now we huddle around pints of beer :)

I have to disagree on Bud and even miller. For the money, they are great quality beers, IMO. Are they amazing for a beer snob? No, probably not but it's like wine. You can get great $10 bottles of wine but a wine snob probably isn't going to like it. For $.50/can it's hard to beat Budweiser (regular not that light crap).[QUOTE="cd_rom"]I drink constantly, but I have an insanely low tolerance for my size. 6 good beers and I'm pretty drunk (GOOD beers. It's because those are cheaper and they have the same effect of getting you buzzed.
Last night, each Iron Horse I had was $4. PBR, Miller, Buds were all $2.75.
My friends make a distinction between "Drinkin' beers" and "Sippin' beers".
I can handle my alcohol okay for the most part. I'll be buzzed after 6 beers. Vodka screws me over after awhile.

Flavor-wise they leave a lot to be desired, but thats too subjective to get in an argument about. Lets just say I wont ever buy Bud, but I wont turn it down if offered either :P
Like I said, I loved Bud back in the day. I've just moved on I guess, and I am not broke so I dont see the point in saving money on something as important as beer.
I wouldn't know. While I do not have a problem with alcohol in moderation, my seminary does. As such, I do not drink alcohol.mindstorm
move to europe. last time I checked they tolerate, even endorse, drinking lol. God bless those Belgian monks!
I remember in England I saw two priests or bishops or something drinking beer in their uniforms and stuff, my US-conditioned mind couldnt believe holy men were drinking alcohol. You cant do that! haha

Yeah I LOVE beer but I just can't get into the more expensive ones. Heck, I even enjoy Natty Ice. I often surprise myself with how much I'm able to drink without getting drunk. It doesn't happen very often that I drink alot in one day/night, but I do drink a couple of beers a day usually.
