I have a dachshund. He's awesome. Funny and incredibly smart to boot!

I'm still undecided wether I should get amother dog. Had 3 when I was little all died but I had each for over 5-7 years. Now that I'm older I would like a dog. The pros I can help out a shelter and save a dog from being put to sleep by getting one. The cons I don't want to clean up poop.

If that's the most compelling "pro" that you can think of, it sounds like you shouldn't get another dog.
Well I live with my friends in a rental house and one of them has 3 guinea pigs. They don't bother me that much but their poop makes our living room area reek.
I'm allergic to pet dander and I find animals incredibly annoying and expensive therefore I don't own any of my own.
That being said I do love cats. One of the best pets we ever owned was a cat who lived to be 18. (Human years.) He was one of the coolest animals I've ever known.
My parents have 3 dogs and a few cats currently. If I'm ever feeling nostalgic for them I just swing by my parent's house to check in.

That's a pretty big pro.[QUOTE="MrGeezer"][QUOTE="kidsmelly"]

That's a pretty big pro.So says the cat lady, who owns 15 cats and lives in a house that reeks of piss and ****.
If you're getting a dog to save dogs, then what the hell, why stop at one? Why not get seven? Nothing you do is ever gonna be enough.
You get a dog because you want a dog, not because a dog is gonna die if you don't get it. Same goes for any pet.

Well it's making a difference in one animal's life. That's better than none of them. No need for black or white thinking.I love all pets. Dogs are always awesome. And I have had tons of parakeets that are really fun to play with. Someday I will buy a nice big macaw. I have wanted to get a full grown parrot ever since I was little.yentlequibleI would tell you not to support the bird trade but I don't know where birds such as Macaws would go...

No. I honestly don't know enough about it, but a lot of those birds are captured in the wild... Oh, I actually have not researched about where they get the macaws. It wouldn't surprise me if they were from the wild... Then again, I think most parakeets are bred instead of being caught. I bred quite a few of them myself.
He's not just getting it to save it. He's obviously getting it because he wants a dog and feels like one of those dogs deserves a second chance and a better life than he has at the moment. There's no need to be mean about it. It's like saying, "Why be a doctor if you just want to save lives? No matter how many lives you save, people are gonna die and be sad."dreDREb13
Well then, saving a dog clearly isn't the most compelling "pro", is it?
Additionally, doctors actually do save more than one person. Doctors don't save one person and then say "that's enough for me...I've done my job, now I can quit this whole doctor thing."
