probably japanese, because then you can easily say what you want around other peope without them knowing what you're saying. People have basic understanding of french and spanish etc.
Although, Japanese is a language which doesnt have many insults. It would still be awesome though.
EDIT: Oh, I could quit my day job, move to rome, learn Latin, become friends with people at the vatican, read an ancient script which will take me 20 years to translate. Then find out the secret to all rock and roll music
Besides the obvious English... I'm already in my second semester of Biblical Hebrew and I'm soon going to be taking my first semester of Koine Greek. When I go for my Masters in a year I'm going to take something like 9 to 12 hours of each of the two languages on top of what I'm doing now, maybe more. I wouldn't mind learning Arabic at some point in time too.mindstormthats cool, going to become a translater or something?

Something of the sort. By learning the original languages of the Bible, I wouldn't have to rely so much on the translations that we have. I'm going into full-time ministry and this way I could get the full meaning of the text while teaching.

I know a bit of that....nothing nice to say however.
Everyone knows swear words should be learnt first, they make a strong foundation for any language.
Plus, and this is true to an extent, swear words are like microcosms of a language - its etymologies, its history and its culture.

Like the other word for "poo" is a history of what I ate? :P

Clever.
Spanish mostly.. my parents wouldn't let me take another 2 years of it at school, even though I got an A (and so nearly an A*) in my GCSEs last year.
Russian would be pretty cool, but I'm not sure how useful. Anddefinitely Japanese. A friend has learned basic Japanese from anime, and can have a conversation in Japanese. A little sad, but impressive.

Unfortunately Mandarin is pretty boring in terms of colourful terms. They use the same expression for dam, sh*t, f*ck, crap "gaisi" and any association with eff off normally has to do with "your mother" "ni ma". Apart from that its a bit of a yawnfest of a language and nowhere near as colourful as english.
Its also very difficult in pronounciation as well as character writing. With two different pronounciations "yijing" can mean already or....wet dream.
I wanna learn Spanish, so many people speak it and I think it sounds amazing. It might be quite easy to master a couple of romantic languages in a couple of years or less if you lived in those countries. I think I might go for it after I graduate.
As for Japanese, I think its not very nice to listen to (My roommate is Japanese) and I know its very difficult. I know from watching Japanese subtitiles (which uses much more complicated Chinese characters) that their grammar is all topsy turvy.
I'm currently learning Latin in school.
I'd also love to learn Italian, Greek, and Gaelic.
I think that Italian is the most beautiful language ever. Latin is absolutely beautiful too, even though you don't hear it spoken.
I'm currently learning Latin in school.

Where do you go to school? I don't think we have the option of learning Latin. It supposedly gives you a better understanding of most other European languages.

Well I learn Latin in the UK. It's really boring now though, after five years of doing it.
