I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy myself a real good movie soundtrack.

I must say, Pirates of the Caribbean has the best soundtrack I've heard in a movie. No, not just the first one either. All four of them. (yes, I like all of the Pirates movies, deal with it) Of the whole track, I'm going to break it down and say the themes of the Kraken, Davy Jones, and Blackbeard are the best. Really, I could spend a whole day listening to all of these movie's soundtracks and nothing else. They're that good.

Other movies, most notably Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Nolan's Batman films also have spectacular music. Just like the PotC soundtrack, I could listen to them all day. Just awesome.

Also, movies like Evil Dead 2 and The Shining deserve a mention. The music in the movies is so atmospheric; I love it to bits.

What about you, OT? What movie's soundtrack do you particularly enjoy? What do you think of music in movies as a whole?

The most recent would be the soundtrack to 'The Tree of Life'.

Kill Bill, Wide Angle, Pulp Fiction, etc.

One of the absolute best soundtracks has got to be Boogie Nights. I highly recommend both the movie and the soundtrack.

Prince of Egypt, Akira, LotR, Star Wars and Howl's Moving Castle, are some of my personal favorites in film soundtracks. I'm more of a TV/VG ost fan though.

I can't say I have ever brought a whole soundtrack but I've been introduced to some nice bits of music thanks to a few movies.

Black Sheep by Metric - Thanks to Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

The Funeral by Band of Horses - Thanks to 127 Hours.

Dead Souls by NIN - Thanks to The Crow (I was a NIN track I would of missed otherwise and I love his version of it most).

It can't rain all the time by Jane Sibley - Also from The Crow. She looks weird but it's one of those rare songs.

Teen Angst by M83 - Thanks to A Scanner Darkley.

The surface of the Sun by John Murphy - Although I am sick to death of it now because it's been overplayed by adverts and crappy wannabe movies that shove it in whenever they want something dramatic. Also John Murphy is very formulmatic and very muchtrailer or montage music, andthere are some computer game compsers who can put his work to shame. Hmmm why is he even in my list I seem to of gone off him.... Nah, never! I love it anyway.

By the way I noticed how on U-Tube it's always been a stigma if you discovered the music trak from a movie.

Although I wouldn't call it my favorite movie soundtrack, I've always really liked the soundtrack to Goldeneye. I just wish the films theme song was better.

Pretty much anything Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I recommend the Indiana Jones collection of of iTunes, which has the Temple of Doom soundtrack, which has never been released in the US till a few years ago. The Dark Knight and Inception soundtracks are pretty cool as well.

Prince of EgyptNagru

Totally agree I love that film and, despite the fact that it's a musical, the actual soundtrack is wonderfully atmospheric and well written.

Steering clear of actual musicals and sticking to scored-for-the-movie soundtracks then my favourite has to be The Village soundtrack. I have a inclination towards melancholic violins. I also really like the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack.

And I adore absolutely anything by Thomas Newman but my particularly favourite soundtracks from him are: The Shawshank Redemption, How To Make An American Quilt, A Series of Unfortunate Events, American Beauty, Erin Brockovich, Wall-E and Finding Nemo.

I also like the Pirates soundtracks especially the brief cameos of electric guitar in the 3rd one.

Bah. I hate to be all pretentious music critic, but I've always had a beef with the Pirates of the Carribean music. More than anything else HZ has composed, that is the most Zimmer-ish work. What I mean is, I can't listen to the Gladiator soundtrack without hearing the Pirates theme right in the middle of the battle piece, or Black Hawk Down, the Tribal Warfare theme is exactly how it sounds in PotC, and other instances I get taken out of the moment. But I like The Thin Red Line and Inception, however.

The most recent movie OST I really enjoyed I think was James Horner's Avatar. Love how it opens and sticks with the militaristic human themes, throws in the dangerous wildlife themes, then slowly eases into the "beauty" of Pandora all through sound. We saw that transition in the movie, and it's completely intact on the soundtrack.
