I like to listen to a bit of rock/punk if its a shoot em up etcCyberkiller1I don't listen to music while I play games. :P
In RPGs and FPS I listen to the in-game music. With RTS, fighters, and action games I listen to metal.
I listen to Prince while playing sports games, jazz or instrumental hip hop during COD4, and Nas whenever I play Zelda. I'm wierd
Exactly. Why "ruin" the atmosphere the game developers try to create with the production of the soundtrack for their videogame? The music in the video game.

I have some times played videogames while listening to music on my mp3 but it usually distracts me so I just listen to what the game has to offer.

When I play Persona 4 I never listen to the music. It got old really quick and kind of takes away from the game IMO.

There are lots of games that aren't atmosphere-intensive. Sometimes the music is very replaceable. If it's something likea Total War, I listen to epic music like Globus, Immediate Music and Two Steps From Hell, and occasionally some symphonic metal.
For shooters, some power metal like Blind Guardian is good.

When the game has a fantastic soundtrack I don't listen to any music, besides the game's own music. However, when the game lacks interesting tunes I just listen whatever I am in the mood to. Just yesterday I played Tiger Woods 10 while listening to The Rolling Stone's Exile on Main Street and 12x5.
The in-game music is what I listen to if there is any. Outside music only distracts me from the game.
I listen to the game. If the music/ambient etc in the game is bad enough that i need to listen to an outside source i probably wont play the game at all.
For games where I dont need to listen to the characters etc I listen to rap/hip hop and sometimes bassline. But when the music on a game is good, or the story is important to listen to I dont have any music playing
I just put my entire MP3 library on shuffle. I have media controls on my keyboard, so I can skip tracks while still playing if I want to.
EDIT - I only tend to listen to my own music in games that have no in-game music, like racing sims and online multiplayer. Even then, I turn it down so it's in the background.

I only listen to the game music for anything that isn't on my computer.
And when on my PC, I only sometimes listen to outside music when playing online games.
And I only listen to Japanese music, no english for me.
