For no reason other than pure curiosity, I was wondering what the political spectrum was like on GS. I included as many as I could in the poll, sorry if i left any out. I could only fit 5, so just type what you are if it isn't included..

they all work ok except anarchy and communism. Monarchy would always depend on the king. he could be great or a maniac. socilaism is great. look at sweden. Most people ive met think socialism and communism are they same thing. Capitalism is good but it can also fail you.

How so? - I'm not referring to the "democracy" we have today, I mean direct democracy - with guaranteed social equality.

Complete democracy is almost as dangerous as communism if you ask me. I like America's "sorta" democracy. Personally though I'm all about socialism from an economic standpoint..

Even so, isn't there something terrifyingly wrong with a true democracy? What about when the issue in question doesn't effect the majority of people? Where do we draw these regulatory lines to safegaurd minority rights?

I still don't get what's wrong, unless you believe the whole "2 wolves and one lamb deciding what to eat for dinner" story, which is politically incorrect.

Okay, say racial discrimination. It's easy as hell to demonise a group of people and the majority of people will be fearful, insecure and want rid of what threatens them. Some guy suggests they get rid of the minority. Thats what happens because they are the majority, freaking idiots, but still the majority. Theres a frightening body of evidence on the subject that I don't need to validate to tell you democracy is flawed and all those who call it boss are usually olligarchs with their own agendas. Some good films on the subject of challenging convention and mediocre majority versus a brilliant minority: Citizen Kane, Amadeus, (play) The Life of Gallileo. Unfortunately, it is the artists who are reluctant to become figures of power that will never get their voices heard.

You can't remove the fundamental rights of other people - it's like voting to become a dictatorship and still trying to claim you are a direct democracy.

Capitalism. As flawed as it is, it offers the best chances of moving up and down the social hierarchy.

I'm all for Capitalism, but take a more libertarian approach, government needs to step back. The economy failed when stuff the government controlled failed. We need a free economy, the only thing the government controls is laws limiting a few things, mostly buisness becoming to large and controlling a market.

There is no ideal democracy, it will never suit everyone, and in a sense everybody is a minority when you break it down. So to protect everyone you shouldn't pander to whatever the majority of people want. One of the many reasons being they are stupid. Compromises have to be made while freedoms have to be kept to make what we call a society work while keeping it as free as possible whilst functional. This isn't democracy. The real issue is size. Not economic, not military power, but communal. There is a critical mass which several studies have found to be around the number of 300 in which a "tibal" leadership is ideal and society functions normally. That is something wired into our human nature, its what we were like 100,000 years ago before we headed into Europe. But for defense reasons we united under a common ideal (religion and later clans/nations/coalitions etc) in order to stave off threats. Why we should consider ourselves similar to any other person in our respective countries is fundamentally absurd and pretty much a rubbish way to define yourself. Now the problem with the majority vote is the fact it doesn't take into account our small-tribe socail networks across the world that are now so vast it is a literal internet of human beings. What the hell does a majority vote matter if we are all connected somehow? Surely we would all know what to do? But yet we have disagreements and different points of view as well as different positions. The world is not yet a hive-mind and thank God it is not. Okay this is coming accross as complete BS, but alas that's what you get for trying to condense all this stuff into a few paragraphs.

I would support one where the government holds accountable those that deserve to be held accountable and tries to understand why something happens instead of just pointing the finger and following the books.

EDIT: Second choice is capitalism :P.

Capitalism: The rich get richer and the poor get ignored
Communism: Everyone is equal
Socialism: The rich remain rich and the poor get more equal opportunites
Anarchism: Every man for himself
Monarchy: King and Queen first

Those are my takes on each of those political/social ideologies

Being from a Working clas family in Inner-city London, I support Socialism and I am proud to admit it. We can't progress as a nation or a society without helping everyone have an equal opportunity in life

something like regulated capitalism with a dash of socialism to protect the middle and lower classes. Something... centrist.
