Before i became agnostic, i was a confirmed Lutheran (my mum's side) and Christian Scientist (dad's side).

What were you?

BTW, please be more specific. Probably 99% of you were Christian, so saying "i was Christian" doesn't bring anything interesting or new to the table. For example, i was Prodestant (Lutheran and Christian Scientist) before becoming Agnostic.

catholic, I remember in Grade 8 my teacher threatened all of us by saying that if we did not go through confirmation (devoting our faith to jesus and god for the rest of our lives) that we would not graduate

I was unsure of what I believed but I knew enough that I was not willing to make that commitment.

I told her one day after school and she told me "well then you're not graduating" and this scared most kids and tho I was unsure I was confident that there was no way she could hold me back just cause I didn't want to go through with it, so we argued for a while, I got my parents signatures and she didn't do anything I ended up going cause I wanted to be with my friends but I was seated in the back because I was not a part of the ceremony.

I was the only one who did it probably because I was the only one with enough intelligence to know what I believe in and not have someone force their beliefs on me with empty threats.

Now I'm an agnostic.

I was raised as a Presbyterian Christian before I began coming to my own conclusions. My parents never pushed religion on me, which I'm glad for. It was more of just a casual acceptance.

I was never raised in any religion or belief system and didn't believe in anything as a kid, but as I grew older I became unable to deny the likelihood of some kind of creator based on logic and the evidence within the universe, so I actually went in the opposite direction.

Yeah I told my family, or really just my parents since none of my siblings remained Mormon. My parents first forced me to go to church and believe but after many years they gave up. I had bad experiences at church so I decided it wasn't right for me. Best decision I've made. EDIT: And it's is more or less true that you will be shunned by your family if you are not Mormon. It just depends on the family, I guess. I have heard of it happening alot in Mormonism, though.

I was raised Catholic and tried out Mahayana Buddhism (not exactly a higher power there, but worth a mention) before a rather brief time where I was agnostic. I'm an Anglican now, though.

My dad's side of the family is Lutheran and I think my mom's side is non-denominational. I've always casually believed in God, but my faith grew as I got older, although I would still call myself a non-denominational Protestant.

Well, I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Couldn't you be kind and generous just because you like seeing people happy? I'm not sure if being afraid of the consequences if you aren't kind and generous is the best reason to be that way.

I believe in God, but that's not why I try to maintain a friendly demeanor and donate to charity and whatnot.

I believe in God, but that's not why I try to maintain a friendly demeanor and donate to charity and whatnot.

That's the way it should be, but it's not. People should try to be kind because they enjoy it. But sometimes that's not enough. Many people believe they need a reason to do things for other people. They say, "I don't owe them anything, so why should I do them a favor?".

This is when religion comes in. They learn about why caring and giving can pay off. I know it's not exactly the best reason, but sometimes people need a reason.

Despite my Christianity I still find organized worldwide religion dislikable.

I just can't seem to fully accept it as something that must go with religion.
