The Confederate flag: a symbol of racism for some, but a fashion choice for Kanye West.
The rapper was spotted Saturday wearing a jacket emblazoned with the flag after being criticized for featuring it on merchandise for his current “Yeezus” concert tour, People reports.
In an interview Monday with Los Angeles radio station 97.1 AMP, West explained why the former flag of Southern states during the Civil War made its way into his merchandise.
“You know, the Confederate flag represented slavery in a way – that's my abstract take on what I know about it,” he said, according to People. “So I made the song 'New Slaves.' So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It's my flag. Now what are you going to do?"
Yup

Oh Kanye...............You cray-cray........................
It's a flag. A piece of cloth with a logo on it. There is nothing inherently racist about any flag, except perhaps this one.

That's not the confederate flag. This is:
I think people who act like the confederates were exercising state's rights and it wasn't a issue of slavery are historical revisionists, and if they don't see it as horrific symbol then they drank the Kool Aid. Slavery was at the heart of it, it's in their own historical documents in each state's succession documents, and it's a very central point of contention for the south.

Let's not forget that slavery was just as important and central to the US at the time. All too often people condemn those who are proud of their ancestor's CSA heritage due to the issue of slavery, but seem to overlook those who are proud of their ancestor's USA heritage in spite of the issue of slavery.
Thing is though, slavery defines the confederate states because it was their only reason for succession. Sure the US has a shameful past but it doesn't define it entirely, the confederacy is define by by its stance on the issue of slavery.
its just the flag of the south and it represents heritage.. anybody that says its racist and represents slavery is ignorant. The US flag flew over slavery for 86 years, the Confederate flag only 4.
Yeah, their heritage of seceding from the union because they had problems with abolitionist overtures like the Missouri compromise. The U.S. was a slave-owning nation for a long time, but the C.S. was founded on protecting slavery. Anyone who wants to celebrate that sort of heritage is a racist.
I think we should make John Brown's birthday a national holiday so we can celebrate the North's heritage of killing slave-owning d*ckholes.

You seem to be confused. Slavery was not the only reason for secession (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "succession.")
like what then?

Precisely, you can't even make a strong case for the flag representing "states rights" because of their support of the fugitive slave act.. A act they pushed through the federal government to force all states to uphold..
