For me, it's a tie between:

Rime of the Ancient Mariner~Iron Maiden

To Live is to Die~Metallica

Moonlight Sonata~Bheetoven (although he isn't a band :P)

How about yours?

Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 Op. 125 "Choral"

Beethoven generally turned everything he put to manuscript to gold but the Ninth just stands out from the rest.

God Send Conspirator - Coheed and Cambria. I know there would be a million people here who would laugh at that choice, but if you read the comics the song is so epic.

The Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson.

Not stating the obvious such as Beethoven and other classical artists....I'll give you two of my favorite songs..

Prayers For Rain and A Strange Day...both by The Cure. Which is two reasons why they earned a spot in my sig.

Ha... I don't think I could even begin to name the number of songs I consider to be musical masterpieces. But if you just want one - let's go with Schubert's Der Erlkonig. Written when he was just 18 years old, it was one of the first of some 600 art songs Schubert would write in the 13 years he had left. Astounding to think how much other music he wrote that wasn't art song alongside those 600 contributions to humanity.

I'm not going to name the classicals because I don't know really any of them. I don't listen to them. One song however that still has not gotten old would be This Mortal Soil by Mastodon.

There are tons of songs I consider masterpieces, but some of the cream of the crop would have to be "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd, "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" by Jimi Hendrix, "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits, "Cortez the Killer" by Neil Young, and "Nutshell" by Alice in Chains.

I'm sure that classical music is exceptionally well put together, but I have to admit it's never really affected me in the way that other songs have, so I can't really list the "obvious choices" in good faith.
