What the hell do you do with 10,000 nukes?

Why do countries collect them in a scope like this? What are you doing to do with them if war breaks out, attack 10,000 places on the planet? Attack some places twice? Why?

All that material, not to mention time and money, could be used to help your army in other ways, but they just wasted it on nothing instead. Once the nuclear war started you will only be able to launch a handful (figure of speech obviously) before they're all obliterated anyways.

There is no deterrent if you can't make absolutely sure your opponent knows that you're going to be able to hit them back.

this is what the goverment thinks, nukes are actually very social weapons so you need lots of them to make sure they don't get lonely and blow themselves up

this is why things like this used to happen when they took a long time to make and so couldn't make lots to keep them happy

It doesn't work unless you opponent is sure that you got them covered. 1500, heck that I'm sure wouldn't cover the static targets that you'd want to hit in such a war.

They're warheads not individual missiles, each modern missile has multiple warheads, oftern carried by subs which have miultiple missiles. So if you loose just one sub you could loose 100 warheads.

Look I understand you need a lot...or you won't be able to retaliate, but

1. You don't launch AFTER you get hit by the opponent's attack.

2. If they're attacking all your stockpiles ANYWAYS you could have a million there, but if they get hit they're done, so you may as well have 2 to a base.

3. Ten. Thousand.

Each one of those dots is a nuclear missle that decimates an enormous area and costs, what, millions? Tens?

With short range missiles there is no warning. So in some cases you're going to only be able to hit back with some of your stockpile.

Of course that is the idea, to keep your opponent from attacking because even if he knows he can pull off an ideal attack he's still going to get decimated.

Only ICBMs. Shorter range missiles you get little to ZERO warning. Also there is more than one way to deliver nukes. You could just ship them if you wanted and detonate them in the target's ports.
