You have morons like Katy Perry and that Taylor Swift where Taylor's songs are just her talking trash about an ex boyfriend. Pretty much all of her songs are about a boyfriend

Then you the only bands that are still doing music are Green Day and they're like in their 50s.

Whatever happened to good decent music.

Oh and I have a question since this a music thread. When you're driving through the slum we call Quebec, and you're listening to the radio....are the songs mostly from French Canadian singers or are they, allah forbid, imported from France?

You stopped hearing it and decided to focus on what you don't like, which defeats the purpose of trying to enjoy something.

There is more good music out there now than ever, you just have to look a little. You're not going to find it if all you listen to is top-40 radio.

This, there is plenty of music out, that is easily accessible. Look for bands you currently like and then search Youtube, Google or Band Camp for similar artist. I don't like the current top 10 stuff, but I don't think I have ever really liked it. You do get some decent stuff every so often though in the album charts.

The music industry is more concerned about conveying a certain image than the music itself. Most pop stars are good looking, but have little or no musical talent. Their material is written for them and their singing is auto-tuned.

There is good music out there, but you have to look for it. If all you listen to is pop radio, you're going to be pretty unhappy with what you hear.

I agree that music sucks today. On the radio every new song is terrible to listen to and I always have to turn it off unless it's good but they are usually old songs and we don't get to listen to them much.

The music industry is dying because they aren't really making any money. Most people that listen to music don't even get the songs legally, therefore the industry has turned into a copy cat biz. There's very little originality because the companies fear taking risks. Besides, the music biz is one of the most corrupt businesses out there. It's only a matter of time before it crumbles to dust. Until then....all you'll get is carbon copies and music that is dressed around image and gimmicks. The days of meaningful soul fulfilling tunes seem to be coming to an end. Now the music is more about drama, a crossover from film to records. why? because that's Entertainment.

If you actually took the quote in context, it's true. But it's easy to delete words to fit your own purposes. As a "music industry", quality of the music isn't as important how much money it brings in. Though, I should refine my statement to mention that it's not any more or less wrong than it was in the past.

Incorrect. As a "music industry" in the Western world, quality of music has been less of a concern to said industry than what they could sell.

It's always been this way. The thing is nobody remembes the sh*t from yesterday. People were having this same conversation 20-30 years ago, and will be having this same conversation 20-30 years from now not remembering the sh*t from today.

Kinda. Her face is odd (not ugly). She's also skinny to the point of looking sickly. If she gained 20 or so pounds she'd look much better and I think it would fill her face out some.

I'm wondering if you got the gist of my first and last post? The industry cares more about copying the hottest thing because they are not making their money back from signing original artist. Everything is now about gimmicks and revved up sex appeal. There is only a handful of artist on the top that has been around for a few years, and the rest of the industry tries to emulate them in hopes of stealing some of their thunder and cream. Some of these artist even look and sound alike. This is one of the reason's why the music isn't as good as it was in the past...because most of today's music is waterdown copies of it.

Wipe away your nostalgia for a past that may not have existed as you think, and you might understand the point that the industry hardly ever had quality of music being the primary source of concern.

Please. Get rid of your nostalgia for the past that might not have existed. The only reason it's more apparent today is because of the internet culture we live in. It's harder to forget the true copycats.

Motown and the birth of hiphop are some prime examples. They started something new and it wasn't until the late 90's that music started sounding redundant and of poor taste. The same can be said about some rock

Again, this is nothing new. You think there hasn't always been copycats in music?

Nowhere near as it is today.

Wrong. Now take off those rose-tinted glasses and wipe away the dewy-eyed nostalgia.

wrong, because you said so? haha, sure, perhaps you need to put on some glasses.

He's right, though. You're ignoring all of the awfulness from the past and choose to see only the good music that has come from it.

[QUOTE="Ring_of_fire"][QUOTE="bnarmz"] I'm wondering if you got the gist of my first and last post? The industry cares more about copying the hottest thing because they are not making their money back from signing original artist. Everything is now about gimmicks and revved up sex appeal. There is only a handful of artist on the top that has been around for a few years, and the rest of the industry tries to emulate them in hopes of stealing some of their thunder and cream. Some of these artist even look and sound alike. This is one of the reason's why the music isn't as good as it was in the past...because most of today's music is waterdown copies of it. bnarmz
Wipe away your nostalgia for a past that may not have existed as you think, and you might understand the point that the industry hardly ever had quality of music being the primary source of concern.

Motown and the birth of hiphop are some prime examples. They started something new and it wasn't until the late 90's that music started sounding redundant and of poor taste. The same can be said about some rock

Child please. Most of those classic rock acts that everyone holds up to godly status were doing nothing more that copying old blues artists. The difference is that being performed by white guys made the music more palatable to suburban white kids.
