Don't ever look at the audience. As far as you're concerned your job is to put that ball in the hoop. Nothing else. And in the end, who cares? I've made SO many embarassing mistakes when I played hockey, but nobody remembers them (even I don't remember most of them).

That would make him even more nervous.

I say imagine they're not there.

Methinks this might be a bit of a distraction.

idk, i used to have that when i first started playing hockey, but after a season or so i became used to the fact a crowd was watching. I just learned to concentrate at the task at hand, rather then worry about screwing up and etc.

i wrestled a year ago for my high school.

as you know it's an individual sport, meaning that it's only you and the other kid up on the mat.

plus you're wearing a singlet (which i was pretty uncomfortable about my first few matches).

i just tried to focus at the task at hand and forget about the people watching me just like the kid who plays hockey (few posts up) would do.

that always worked.

Well I play golf and whenever there is a crowd I am not nervous because frankly I dont care what they think and I am most likely better than them. Also I am the one participating and they are the one watching. I only get nervous when coming down the stretch and I put pressure on myself but I usually keep my emotions in check. I just stick to shot after shot.

It's funny, if you look around the crowd when you get the chance, you'll find most of the time, most people aren't looking at you. I get like that too, when I'm in a large crowd, but if you take a second and glance around, they're focused mainly on who they know on the team, rather than yourself. Once you realize that, it's not too bad :P

Too bad you didn't! What a great starter line that would be.

"Hey uh, sorry I hit that baseball in your direction and knocked you out...you wanna go out sometime?"

It could work.

Sing a song to yourself...or try and keep your thoughts occupied with something else.

I was like that, but I'm trying to perform with a band soon so I had to quickly get rid of that fear by bein able to practice in front of anyone I could. Now I'm not really bothered.

Don't worry about it. After a while you get used to the crowd anyways.
