I’ve always been more of a cardio person. Walks, jogs, biking from time to time. As for sports, enjoy basketball or ultimate frisbee. How about you, OT?

Well, when I am active, it's all about weightlifting for me. At one point I was training for strongman, but that was a while ago.
I'm a big guy. I don't run 😖 I pick up heavy things and then put them down again 😂😁

is that why you break so many controllers?
I still lift weights to stay big coz i am used to intimidate people on the streets which is funny and i don´t want to miss that.
I do my physical therapy exercises but I've never enjoyed any sports. Pretended to for while as a kid since everyone else seemed so hyped about them but all sports bore me to death. I guess if I had a gambling habit and cared about the outcome it would be different.
DDPY, it's not your momma's yoga and it gives you a killer workout. Also the treadmill for like 30 minutes to an hour is great.
Basketball, baseball, jogging, weight lifting, and window shopping... I need to do more of each though.
Used to be big on cardio. Mostly running and swimming. And yeah used to hoop it up a lot, but that was waaaayy back lol.
Best shape of my life was a mix of bodybuilding style resistance training along with conditioning work I'd do with my boxing buds. Would like to get back to that.
Currently just straight resistance training, PPL split. No fancy programming, no blocks, just straight forward progressive overload. I really should work in more cardio though. Aside from a quick stair machine warmup before each lift, only going on walks.
I fell off in a bad way during covid, been a struggle getting back. Right when muscle memory started picking up, got hit with distal bicep tendinopathy. 😑 At least it wasn't a full tear, but still, it's been a setback these past 5 months.

I definitely don't do it for that, but funny when those misunderstandings happen. Used to be any time I'd be standing near the door of a bar/club with the buds, people would come up handing me money or IDs. 😂 Like motherfucker I don't work here lol
I alternate between running and strength during the week. On weekends I do some kayaking and diving.
BJJ and more recently Muay Thai. Normal cardio is the most mind numbingly boring thing a person can do, and I've had two ACL surgeries (both knees) so I'm not a huge fan of jogging.
During the height of the pandemic, I got back into DDR in a big way though. I had a friend who used to come over to my house and play on my setup during his lunch break. I used to play with him and I got back into it when I needed a cardio option that wouldn't bore me to tears.
My sister gave me her elliptical machine she no longer uses few weeks back and I have been putting lots of time in it, it's great I can mount my cellphone in front of me and watch something on YouTube or stream movies and such to keep me distracted. I'll start going for walks again when weather gets mild. Using elliptical to help me build stamina so I can get back into running.
Use to lift weights but put that on hold because I suspect it is interfering with aspects of physical therapy.
I'm lucky to live in area with lots of accessible mountains, so I do a lot of hiking/mountaineering in the summer and skiing in the winter.
play a bit of golf here and there, through i'm' pretty bad.
I also fly fish though thats kinda marginal as a sport/exercise lol.
I have chronic back and neck issues from being pretty tall and working at a computer all day so I gotta do daily stretches/exercises to keep that under control as well.

I like ellipticals, particularly for recovery. They were my main form of rehab cardio when I was recovering from knee surgery.

lol I thought it was just me 😀🤣 Happened a couple times back in college.
Doesn't help that I always wear black I suppose.
It doesn't bug me, but I'm not trying to intimidate people I wish folks were not so scared of big people we are usually quite gentle lol

This is always an interesting topic to discuss, "the actual reason" as to why people lift weights, coz the majority of bodybuilders (especially them!) are in fact just "ego-builders", they´re doing it for their ego mostly.
And of course all those steroid-, let alone those synthol-freaks, are of course just doing it because "lifting weights is so healthy!" or "lifting weights cured my back-problems!" or "i was fat and lifting weights helped me getting lean!"
but I'm not trying to intimidate people
How would you actually try that?
The same way as how you would try getting respect or make certain people respect you?
But then again, "being respected" and "being intimidating" aren´t the same are they?

How? With your actions. Same as with respect. You don't simply respect people on a whim; you get to know them, hear their story, observe how they act around you and others, etc.
Same thing with intimidating. Smile when you make eye contact with people, offer up a "hello" every now and then to smaller people to show you're friendly, if it's late at night and a lone woman is walking towards you, cross the street so she feels safe. If all you do is walk down the middle of the sidewalk with a scowl on your face at 6'3" 275 lb, you're not trying. This is hard for me because I have a perma-scowl lol.
The trick is finding the line between courtesy and being a pushover and not crossing it.
Or don't try, just be yourself. Other people should just assume you are intimidating just because you look intimidating. A lot of girls are told to be scared of men and that doesn't help, not my problem.

There's also the majority of folks that lift weights for fun and health reasons. There's also the challenge aspect, of always trying to do better than your previous. And if you hate running, weightlifting is a great way to stay in shape. I'd argue it's far better than running or biking but that's just my $0.02.

Ha yeah had this convo a few times. Even just the other day with the neighbor, old Army guy who still pretty jacked. It's true though, usually bigger guys aren't out here with something to prove. Just chill dudes doing their own thing.
Plenty of stories of how I'd have to be like "nah dude, I'm chill, all good, no worries, wouldn't hurt a fly, etc." when some guy thinks he just landed in deep shit.

Yup, I have a laundry list of reasons for why I enjoy lifting. And some of it is very much superficial. Definitely some ego about it on my end. (not to be mistaken with actual ego lifting, dumb shit)
"lifting weights is so healthy!" or "lifting weights cured my back-problems!" or "i was fat and lifting weights helped me getting lean!"
Well, never been on gear and obviously synthol is disgusting and looks stupid lol. But sure, can say I've officially ticked all 3 of those "reasons" boxes now.
- Yes, lifting is healthy. Active exercise in general is healthy, but lifting is the most rewarding to me, which makes it easier to stick with. All types of ways to stay fit, but consistency is king and lifting is the best for me in that respect.
- I work a desk job, sometimes long hours, lifting is a part of keeping my posture "back problems" in check.
- Any other time I got back into lifting, was already lean and fit. This time though, nope. Fat ass. Pre-covid was in the best shape of my life. Then for 20 months straight did zero exercise and ate junk. Major atrophy while also gaining tons of fat. This is my first time attempting a big recomp. Scale came down 30 lbs already. Moreover I've "traded in" a lot of fat for muscle weight. Still a ways to go, slow process, but it's definitely working.
Of course other reasons.
I don't train specifically for strength, but functional strength is still gained. Helps out a lot with day to day activities.
I usually enjoy the lifting itself. I always enjoy how good I feel afterwards.
And on that more superficial side, yeah obviously I do it for the aesthetic lol. I enjoy looking good in and out of my clothes. Of course it's nice to hear those daily compliments. And call me a scumbag, but I enjoy a variety of women. Don't need to be jacked to make that happen, but god damn it's like having the cheat codes.
Just benefits my lifestyle in so many ways, even if a few aren't so noble.
but I'm not trying to intimidate people

You don't simply respect people on a whim; you get to know them, hear their story, observe how they act around you and others, etc.
My point is people these days doesn´t really know the difference anymore, as to when someone is respecting one or just being scared of the person, either that or the majority of guys doesn´t like to admit being scared. Like when some guy comes up to me in a club, starting a conversation about lifting weights or asking me the same questions those kind of guys usually tend to ask, while buying me a beer and already acting like they´re basically saying "You´re big, i want to be your friend!". That classic happend way too often to me, along with people asking me for the toilets since they think i belong to the club obviously.
Of course no one of them would admit "being scared", they would claim "I respect you because of your size!" but in my opinion, if you feel "respect" just by looking at a person, then fear is kicking in, rather than "respecting" that person.
There's also the majority of folks that lift weights for fun and health reasons. There's also the challenge aspect, of always trying to do better than your previous. And if you hate running, weightlifting is a great way to stay in shape. I'd argue it's far better than running or biking but that's just my $0.02.
Of course there are those kind of people too and you´re right with your points!
But i´ve spent 30 years in the (right) gyms, with the (right) kind of people who lift weights for all other reasons but staying healthy or lifting weights "because it is so much fun!", some in fact didn´t really loved it at all and they really hated it once they were off the juice.
It also takes a lot for them to admit why they really do it and you have to be real close friends with them so they tell you about it. Some of them are mentally so wrecked they´re about to wreck their bodies now, doing everyting to be "da shit" and of course those guys are then stacking 3000mg testo per week with 16 tabs d-bol per day, just to feel "better" when wearing their spandex shirts in the clubs at the weekends.
It can happen i still think about this or that guy from back the old days and how fu**ed up they were, in fact never being happy with their already huge arms at all, so they needed even more juice and since that still ain´t enough, they started injecting synthol to make their arms so freaky big that you´re ain´t sure no more if the guy actually looks like a real freak or more like a sad dork with obvious issues.
It doesn't bug me, but I'm not trying to intimidate people I wish folks were not so scared of big people we are usually quite gentle lol

I did not mean the ego-thing with lifting weights as a negative aspect at all! I am just criticizing how certain guys tend to lie so much about it all to themself and of course to all others, some of them also lie about their steroid-abuse, even when it´s obvious for everyone with some slight knowledge about the subject.
That whole thing is also pretty complicated as there is not just "black and white" when looking at the subject, like when a regular normal guy just starts lifting weights for the right reasons and slowly falling more and more into an ego-trip while he more and more does it all for more wronger reasons than back the days when he started.....LOL...like it happened to me.
I was always an anorexic 6f3 150lbs heavy computer- and videogame nerd who never cared about muscles or "being big", i was never being bullied and i don´t remember having any self-esteem related issues, those things were out of any questions since i had more interesting things on my mind rather than visiting clubs at the weekend and getting drunk with buddies.
So then there came the day when i tried lifting weights and i really loved it...especially the pump and the overall feeling afterwards, while i didn´t care much about it being "healthy".......so to make a very long story short....i am 6f3 and started lifting weights with a bodyweight of approx. 150lbs. while i was at 300lbs 10 years later.
Needless to say i was on the juice and deadlifting 685lbs (my favorite back then!), there also came the day when i tore my left pec while warming up with 265lbs on the bench, happily my body never had any other steroid-abuse-related problems like bitchtits etc. or i better say....not any problems yet to this day, while my last cycle was happening about 7 years ago....just when i tore my pec. That was when i decided to end steroids and probably as well end lifting weights for once and for all, but i got back to it happily and today i am enjoying it again....but without any steroids.
Actually just came back from the gym as i am writing this.
Swimming. It's perfect for de-stressing and works out pretty much every muscle.
Other than that, the bare minimum I need to stay in shape. I used to run, climb, cycle, lift, do martial arts, cross-fit, yoga, swim four times a week.... the works. Cost me a fortune just to feed myself and ate up most of my free time, so I cannot be bothered these days.

Yeah for sure, didn't take it that way at all. I know the exact type, dishonest about their reasons/goals. Though typically a beginner thing, like they're ashamed to say what they're chasing and usually more honest once they're seeing real results.
Yeah with the gear, don't care too much about natty or not discussions. Though it is funny in extreme cases like chef Rush or Mike O'Hearn for example. Basically a meme. My only real issue is that guys like that do give people a false idea of what's possible.
snip
Damn guy, that is a serious transformation. No matter your motivation, or the gear, that's a lot of hard work and a lot of eating lol.
Yeah I get chasing the pump, was a big motivator early on and still to this day.
I don't have any judgements when it comes to steroids, no moral grounds, or "I'm better than that" shit. If I could pop a pill or pin something that greatly increased gains without the sides? Shit yeah I'd be all over it. I just don't want to risk it. Not sure if I'd respond well or be a wreck. And even those who respond well, still doing some level of damage. I'm not a pro bodybuilder, powerlifter, or strongman, not in a position where I need PEDs just to compete at a high level. Just a guy who enjoys lifting lol. Especially now at the age of 40, would be pretty dumb to test the waters.
I'll admit though, was very tempted at one point. About 4 years back, saw one of my buds put on over 20 lbs in the space of two months. Even when the water weight came off, was still a 17 lb lean gain, like holy shit. Decided not to though, probably for the best.
(not to be mistaken with actual ego lifting, dumb shit)
Sorry if this part read like I was calling you a dumb shit. 😂
Just meant ego lifting is some dumb shit.

LOL tell me about it, especially when it came to eating! More than half of the food i ate was weight-gainer powder with milk, i swallowed that shit on a daily basis multiple times a day to the point where a few times i´ve been close to puking it all back into the bottle just the moment i emptied it.
Fu**ed up fact was that it was actually friends and family-members who motivated me to the point of falling into that ego-trip while trying to get as huge as i could, i even thought about injecting synthol too but i was aware that once you start with that crap...you´re probably really lost since people are anyway never happy at all with their gains so they want more and more and more and more...
Anyway, how all the people "motivated" me, was actually telling me how great i am looking with 30 pounds more and it totally fits to my character and blah-blah-blah-blah so well when i noticed that i am actually already bigger to the point of those people actually saying "Now isn´t that a little too much now?" it was too late and i was already stuck on that ego-trip, which got me to those 300lbs finally, lol.

LMAO now that you mention it!
But i wasn´t understanding it as me bing a "dumb shit!" anyway since we already were talking before and you ain´t the kind of guy who opens up his mouth too wide like that, there are others here who do that and i am perfectly aware of who those people are and what they´re up to.
playing soccer regularly for ~35 years up until a knee injury last year sidelined me for a while, not sure if i'll get back into it or not.
other than that mostly running and a little bit of biking
When I first started losing weight, it was all cardio; walking, jogging, cycling. Now that I'm older, I've been weight lifting. I think I've been doing it for three to four years now. Full body. I've recently been implementing cardio with leg day, though just short bursts; like 150-200cal burn only, which is usually only ten minutes of cardio. I do that twice a week, sometimes only once a week. I hit the gym six days a week.
