All those things have been around for a long time now, and some of the best TV shows ever made have been created in the last decade. Nothing is ruining television.JML897Well yeah, but MTV was destroyed by it and VH1 is getting worse and so on... And hey I know the best TV shows ever made are coming out, dedicated Lost fan over here haha... But seriously all I am saying, is if one of these types of shows was not created which one would be the best to be ridden of.

I want digital tv so that i can skip all ads. (it will turn off tv when ads are on, and then turn back on when it continues)
Canned laughter.
It's trying to make up for a shows horridness.
And filler.
Some shows here would only be a third of their length if it weren't for the 10 countdowns, the look at the previous episode, the look at what to expect next, the endless replays...
Ahhh didnt think of that, those are extremely good points! I hate canned laughter, I can never tell if its actual laughter or not :(Advertising :3

Thats what I was going to say! I think I will also add the Disney channel to that list, it's basically a conduit for canned laughter: "Hey Zack hold my ice cream for minute" "Sure, oops I dropped it!" (canned laughter) "Now the floor's covered in ice-cream!" (huge amount of canned laughter).
The music channels are all but dead to me, then again they were always corpses. They only play what's popular among 14 year old girls. Justin (insert incredibly filthy insult here) Bieber and other crap like Usher or Kesha. Metal's popular too, but they won't play anything heavier than Greenday or Nickleback.
While I'm at it I'll complain about sport on tv too. Free tv has sports channels now, but why do they still play football on other channels? Once I went to watch a mid-day movie only for the bloody AFL to be on WHILE IT WAS THE SPORTS CHANNEL AT THE SAME TIME! Just makes me want to vomit with rage.
But ads are getting out of control these days. They go for minutes at a time at 10 minute intervals, sometimes less! And now they're on pay tv and SBS, it's only a matter of time before they reach the ABC too and I ascend the nearest clock tower...

I put in a post saying that I agree with this, and that I didnt word the question correctly....
The plague of reality shows. When the Surreal Life first aired on Vh1 I thought it was pretty fun to watch, but little did I know it was a precursor to the **** stew that was coming. I don't even think it's right to call Vh1 a music channel anymore. Oh and another thing ruining that channel in particular or atleast on of the vh1's is the rampant showing of The Jacksons: American Dream movie.
Also the death of nickelodeon and cartoon network. Nick use to be about simple cartoons and stuff, now it's slowly trying to imitate the hannah montana craze with iCarly and I think some other show as well. I don't watch cartoon network, but I use to absolutely love Toonami, and stopped watching cartoon network after they cancelled it, after being on air for so long.
Yeah, seriously. I hate it when that happens, few channels offer few breaks anymore.Too many commercial breaks during a 30 min block. There used to be one break halfway through but now there are 3-4. It's insane.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Yeah, seriously. I hate it when that happens, few channels offer few breaks anymore.Yeah it sucks. Every 5 minutes you have another 2 minutes of ads. I guess TV companies are only interested in what kids want. Want Hannah Montana? Done. Need to take a piss every five minutes? Done. All those things have been around for a long time now, and some of the best TV shows ever made have been created in the last decade. Of what you listed, Reality shows.
There have been 20 ******* seasons of Survivor.
Put it down old yellow styl e.

Ugh, if gamespot had a redo button this would have went a lot better... What I was trying to ask was out of those TV shows I mentioned, which would do the world the better favor by leaving.swaggafiedto the above poster and to other people who think I am saying TV is ruined...

Humans.
Yes humans are ruining the TeleVision.
Other way around i think...;)

TC, please explain to me when tv was "good."
Dating shows have been on tv since the 60's, poorly written family sitcoms have been on even longer. If you want to go the days when tv first came out and your options were the news, the news, or the news, I guess all the more power to you.
National television has always sucked, save for a few rare gems (like Arrested Development), but cable tv has given an outlet for lots of innovation and creativity (for example, shows like the Sopranos and Breaking Bad that focus on story-telling).
If you want to know why national tv has ALWAYS sucked, I'll give you a few reasons:
-Fox news. You don't have to "jk" about it, this program truly is evil.
-Sitcoms. I have never watched a sitcom with a laughtrack I've enjoyed, except for Seinfield. I have watched **** like the Big Bang Theory and predicted every single punchline.
-Hokey "family dramas."

I mean look at Jersey Shore, I dont see how you could make an argument saying thats most trashy show of all time, then there is Ochocincos Ultimate Catch, TO Show, Survivor, Bachelor and so on. And yeah there is a good amount of quality TV still, more then I thought I suppose... But I had made the error of wording the topic wrong and just learned about the edit button sooooo.
I don't like any of those things either but there's still some good quality programing. BUT if there's one thing I find irritating now it's how all the 'channels' are trying to expand their audiences. Cartoon Network has live action shows, the History Channel has UFO stuff, ect. It's understandable since capitalism demands growth but 10 years from now all channels are going to be the same content-wise.Meinhard1
I thought that was weird too. I turn on the History channel because I feel like watching something documentary-ish, and I get something that isn't history-related at all. SciFi isn't sci-fi anymore, Court-tv isn't court-tv anymore. It is kind of curious. I still miss Tech-tv :C
