Usually films have huge budgets, a hot babe, big name stars, and a bunch of products to promote the film on store shelves.
What is your guess that a fresh, new movie full of unknowns manage to be number 1 in the box office?

[QUOTE="nimatoad2000"]umm.. peter jackson made it, his name alone will make people see it. also , good movies dont need that kind of garbage, when a movie is good, people will talk about it, then their friends will see it, talk about it.. exc.GettingTiredPeter Jackson didn't direct it though. sorry, produced it. but still, they used his name to promote it.
It's because it was amazing, and people told their friends that it was amazing after seeing it and their friends went to see it.
That and Peter Jackson produced it and put his name in really big letters on it.

Your question answers your question. The movie's #1 in the box office precisely because it's fresh, and precisely because it's not the formulaic summer blockbuster replete with "huge budgets, a hot babe, big name stars, and a bunch of products," as you say.
Not only did a well known director produce the movie, it had an original concept and for a movie with a 30 million dollar budget and no big name actors, it looks magnificent and Copley does a superb job for having little to no acting experience.
I think the success was generally connected to it's vivid cgi/real-life sequences and documentry style story, which make it a very unique movie compared to the ones that have been released lately. Not to mention the mystery affect it has throughout the entire movie.
Those charecteristics alone make it one of the best...
Then, the snowball effect takes place, friends tell friends, forums bloom with threads, and then everyones hears how good it is, therefore conditioning judgements on the movie.
It's still a verygood movie.
Originality.
It was a breath of fresh air from the constant bombardment of movie sequels/adaptations.

D9 is based on a short film by the director, titled Alive in Joburg. After the Halo film, which Blomkamp was set to direct, fell apart, it was suggested that he turn Alive in Joburg into a feature film. RE5 had nothing to do with it.Please Log In to post.
