I occasionally see some young kids toddling around, absorbed by them. Honestly (I'm genuinely curious) what's the appeal of these little things? Isn't it just some pet simulator with wi-fi capabilities?

I didn't really get the appeal when the first ones came out, and I was like 9 or 10 years old. :P I remember kids that had 4 or 5 of them going at once.
Tamagatchis are still around? I haven't seen one since the 90s. . .scorch-62I'm also surprised at this. Aside from my surprise though I think the appeal was having a pet you could carry around in your pocket without having to worry about it soiling your pants.
I swear I remember them coming out with a tamagotchi game on the ds at one point. However that was long after Nintendogs which had outdone tamagotchi in every way possible.I thought those dies out awhile ago. If anyone still has them it is because they are on drugs.

Tamagochis would be great with today's technology. I say bring them back with more realism, better graphics and more crazy stuff.GazaAli
Didn't Ninty do that already with Nintendogs/cats/ponies?
i am not buying your post tcDiviniuz...what's there to "buy?" I'm curious as to why people found these little toys so appealing, because in my mind, they look like a dumb, gimmicky pet simulator. I saw a couple kids with them earlier when I was passing by Toys R Us.

Wut? Someone must of necro this post from the 90s :P Ill admit I kinda wanted one back as a kid even though Im a dude, I like animals by heart so I guess is natural to be wonder wtheck is so fun about that. My cousin finally handed down a near-dead battery one when I was a kid, but my animal kept on dying so heh rest was history.
I occasionally see some young kids toddling around, absorbed by them.CaptainAhab13I still have 3 tamagotchis - 2 of which I bought in recent years. I can't really explain the appeal, they're just awesome :)
Ever want a puppy or some other cute critter as a kid but your parents just said no? Tamagotchi!
I think that's pretty much it. :P
I always assumed they werea learning aid for people recovering from major brain injuries. Well... learn something every day, eh? :P

No, no, no, no, no. This sucker's electrical. But I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need.

Looks like we'll need some lightning and a clock tower. 8)I played with a Digimon pet back in the day. The appeal was that I had a pet that evolved and grew directly in accordance to how I raised it, and I got to make him fight.NuclearNerdi remeber that if you leave him too long, a massive poop is on the screen...
