I think his music. People get more popular once they die, and his music is still being played everywhere. When you talk about MJ, the controversy and everything is rarely brought up anymore and even though it will still be there, his music will be what he's primarily remembered for.
I hope that made sense. :| All nighter =/= coherency
Whenever I hear someone say Micheal Jackson, a mental image pops up in my head of him in his white suit and hat, yelling out "OOOHH!!" in a high pitched voice while simultainiously grabbing his crotch and moonwalking. Once this has occurred his song Smooth Criminal begins to play. So that.
Unfortunately, I think that, in the future, people will look at him for his assault charges. What a lot of people don't see, however, is that there were only two official charges. I can't remember the exact years, but I think they were 1994 and 2003. I find it so sad that, whenever there's a mention of child abuse in the local media, someone makes a reference to Michael. Basically, his career will (or, rather, was) never be the same as it once was, simply because of the incident. Combine that with all the ignorant, hypocritical people who change opinions just like that, and you draw this upsetting conclusion. He is the King of Pop, and I hope that he will be forever. He, in my mind, is the greatest singer, dancer and performer.
People whose careers will never be the same due to an incident:
Shane Warne, Wayne Carey, Ben Cousins, Tiger Woods, Chris Brown, OJ Simpson, Mike Tyson
Honestly speaking, he will be remembered for his awesome dance moves. You gotta admit MJ is that good. And also, his singing. His "Thriller" album being number 1 pretty explains it.
The music and the personal controversy will obviously both be remembered.
If the man had been just a little eccentric, the music would be remembered without the oddness, but he was extremely eccentric and like it or not, he was accused of child molestation. People don't simply forget something like that.
Personally I will remember him for 2 things.
Captain EO
This used to be at Disneyland and was a 3D mini-movie. Was alot of fun when it came out

They have it on Youtube now, link above is to Part 1 (its in 2 parts)
and
MJ will be remembered for his music.
"Beat it....no one wants to be defeated...."
"Cause this is Thriller...."
"Billy Jean's not my lover...."
Greatest album of all times in my opinion...
MJ will also be remembered for his dancing as well...
A great entertainer and one of the greatest of all in the music industry.
I know I won't be remembering him for his music.Lonelynight
do you change your sig on an hourly basis?
I'll remember him for "Liberian Girl" and other timeless classics he's made as part of the Jackson 5 and as a solo artist.
Others will remember him for all the whacko jacko nonsense from the 90s up until his death.

On-topic: his music.
The greatest entertainer of all-time, seeing as how that's already how he's remembered.SmittyPeppersI don't remember him that way. He was good but greatest ever. Naw

I sort of agree with this.
If we are talking about greatest performer, than yeah, I'd give it to Michael. He has the most on-stage charisma. Even Elvis doesn't beat him in that department.
But all around entertainer? No way. His recordings are really not any better than any of the other great pop artists.
I'd go as far as to say that Michael's music is not all that interesting. It's catchy, its polished, the melodies are strong. But it lacks the experimentation of Prince or post-80s Madonna. It's too safe.
And his musical catalogue sure does not have the breadth and scope or quality of The Beatles catalogue.
