Simple question to make you think, my example would be:

British Univirsity Student, focusing on design for interactive media and game design, I prefer city life, and my top 3 choices for the future would be in this order:

1) Tokyo

2) New York

3) London

Naturally 2 & 3 are realistic options, however I figured Japan/Tokyo would be nothing but a Holiday or a Pipe-dream unless I actually knew the language, so I've started to learn, comes with other benefits, importing games and understanding them ;), learning about technology way ahead of time in detail ect ect.

What would be your ideal second language?

I'd love to be able to speak Russian.

EDIT: Forgot to mention a reason. Two reasons; firstly, it sounds like a good language and secondly, when we have world-wide Russian hegemony, I want to be able to fit in at the top.

Unless I move out of the country some day (which btw, is a possibility as becoming a missionary interests me) then I'll go with Koine Greek. Being as I'm planning to become a pastor one day being able to translate the New Testament myself would be of major benefit. Also, I have actually taken some classes in Greek and plan to take more.

Its not too bad because there is a lot of english around Tokyo (signs, restaurant menus etc) for tourists and a lot of people who work at shops can usually speak basic english, but my life would probably be a lot easier if I learnt Japanese obviously. I've only just got here though and am about to start learning how to speak it soon.

I live in the US so it would probably be a good idea to know how to speak Spanish or Chinese. Spanish because Mexicans are going to be the majority in the US soon and Chinese because China is U.S.'s biggest creditor and a growing giant of a nation.

In terms of beneficence, it would be Spanish because I live in an area that contains many immigrants from Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries.

But the one I want to learn is Latin.

I praise you man, becoming pastor and all that, that takes a lot of commitments and time and patience, with today's christians. I mean i quit the church because of the people, i don't know it's just that i am disappointed with the christians here, just talk but no action. Oh yeah, by the way how much money you get when you becoming a pastor ? i mean the church does pay you right ?

Probably French. I like the language, and I am of French descent, and I live near Canada, and I plan on going there some day. So it would be one of the more beneficial languages for me.

As I live in the US, Spanish would probably be the most beneficial to me, even though it's a language that just kinda grates me. >_> In any case, I took some German in high school and undergrad, and I'm studying Koine Greek in grad school (summer class actually).

Spanish, because I live in America. It has its uses.

Chinese would also be useful, I suppose. I just don't have as much interest in learning it (it's a rather difficult language to learn).

Theokhoth

I took 4 years of Latin in high school. Its useless unless you want to become a Catholic priest. Even then, they speak Church Latin which has a lot of differences.

For me, English is basically my first language..apart from Hebrew. The most useful language I would guess for me to learn would be Spanish.

Thanks and I completely agree with what you mean by many Christians in our culture. People often times think themselves to be good Christians because of other Christians they see. The problem is, others are not to be our model to follow after but Jesus Christ. And in reference to how much the church pays, typically it's as much as the congregation's average income. Because of that, the amount the pastor makes varies greatly.

I think it's incorrect to assume people will be perfect because they are Christian. Christians strive to live as Christ....but humans are not and will not be perfect.

I agree completely but often times that is used more as an excuse for inaction than anything. For instance, a missionary in Africa is no less a sinner than anyone else, that doesn't stop them from serving Christ however.

I do not think that way as I'm no less special or less of a sinner than anyone else. Keep in mind that I'm a Calvinist. Basically what I mean by that is that I'm so depraved as a human being that the only reason I seek God is because He wants me to seek Him. There is nothing special about me, I've just experienced the grace of God. That means I as a person am no more holy than anyone else, someone greater is the one who is holy.

We gotten really off topic. o.0 ...Hebrew is cool too. I've studied it some too. :D

Either Japanese because I'm going into game design, or Spanish, because I've got Hispanic blood, and I live in Florida. I don't think it's absolutely necessary for me to know Japanese, but I'm sure it could help in business.
