What Would You Do In This Messed-Up Scenario?

SCENARIO: you go to your good friend's apartment and his girlfriend is yelling and screaming at him as soon as you two enter the door. they begin arguing in the next room and you just stand there listening. All of a sudden she slaps him and he hits her back. Not just a slap, he wallops her, and she falls to the ground crying.

What do you do?

I'd first restrain the friend and if I felt the situation called for it I'd call the police which is at a very high probability.

Call the cops and testify to what he did.

She probably didn't slap him nearly as hard as he hit her. This sounds sexist, but I'm a girl, and I know I could never hit as hard as any guy could. Most girls probably can't. But seeing a guy hit his girlfriend back is no reason to call the police -- so if I ever found myself in such a situation, I would just try to calm everyone down as much as possible.

To be honest, with the people I'm thinking about, I wouldn't be surprised if my friend's gf tried to stab/assault/shoot him. So, I'd probably just sign and make up some excuse to leave. . . .
