So I'm in sophomore year in HS and I have a 3.3. While personally I'm not content with it, I've heard that Colleges consider the regular classes in the school I go to (a private christian school) honors classes compared to the public school regular classes. Does this mean that my 3.3 will be looked at differently depending the school i'm currently going to? I'm also planning on taking AP classes next year.

I would say a three at minimum. 3.5 or higher looks really good though and not that hard to get really.

Basically this. It's usually the minimum GPA if you want consideration for a job out of college... so it's a good threshold for high school, too.

You might not find it hard but a 3.5 is leaps and bounds higher than the average Joe-Student gets in HS. :P

I'm also a sophmore with a 3.3. But I took very hard classes my freshman year trying to get them out of the way. My gpa should be rising the rest of my high school years tho.

At least a 3.5 but I've seen kids with 3.0 or below get into good colleges simply because they improved their grades overtime while taking harder classes, inside and outside activities and clubs, and just being a good kid throughout your highschool years. But your GPA is good so keep it good. Take classes that interest you but also classes that have your favorite subject but also a hard class (like honors or AP) and mantain a B or A. Also, do some clubs you like.

GPA is important but it's not the only thing colleges want to see. They also want to see that you pushed yourself to the limits while mantaining good grades.

As someone who finished HS with a GPA of 3.7 overall (a horrible grade 10 followed by good grade 11 and excellent grade 12), I would recommend to go as high as possible (at least 3.0+). That will make it easier for you to get to your desired post-secondary education place :)

Isn't a 3.4 in an IB class a 4.2 anywhere else?

I think it's easier to get into a University located in your state rather than outside so I believe a 2.8 would suffice as long as you have good SAT and/or ACT scores.

A "good" GPA obviously depends on what college you're thinking of applying to. 3.0+ is fine for an average state school (3.5+ for Honors Programs or higher tier public universities), while a 4.0 is pretty much expected for private higher tier universities. However, keep in mind that schools look more at weighted GPAs rather than unweighted ones. Generally, the rule of thumb is a 3.0 with tons of honors classes is better than a 4.0 with no honors classes. Another important factor is class rank, which allows colleges to see how competitive your school is. A "good" class rank also depends on the college.

I had a 2.8 in high school. I got a 33 on my ACT and figured I could coast on that and slack off. Turns out I was right. Getting prepared for Pharmacy school with my 3.9 GPA in college.

Right now I'm at Boise State University (not my college of choice, but I promised my dad I would stay very close to home for my first 2 years of college) and as soon as I finish my finals up this coming week I am transfering to my preferred college of Oklahoma University.

My school doesn't use GPA, we just get percentages. Good is considered over 90%, average is in the 70's, highest marks are 98-99.x.

I disagree. Honestly, I found most of the AP classes I took to be quite a bit harder than their college equivalents.

Actually no all the classes are that easy. I'm not sure which AP courses you're referring to but something like AP Calculus is probably going to be similar to a standard college Calculus course. Your standard college calculus courses are not difficult.

As for SgtKevali taking pot shots at my intelligence this is just laughable. I completed nearly 29 years of university in 8 years and have 7 degrees.
