Ok to start off im gonna say that Blink 182 is my most favorite band. and then in second is NOFX then Offspring, then prolly weezer and then uhhh lets see......Blind leaping turtle.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
1. Blink 182(don't care if you "real" punks think your to cool to not call them anything but pop punk)
2. Nofx(old)
3. Rancid
4. Misfits with Danzig
5. Anti-Flag
Ugh...Blink 182 is not even remotely CLOSE to punk.
NOFX, The Casualties, The Ramones, No Cash, Misfits. I have sooo many more but you said five. Currently a newer band that I'm really into is Time Again. They sound alot like old Rancid.

4. Lou ReedFilm-GuyI wouldn't consider Lou punk. Yeah, he did help out in influencing the genre, but I wouldn't call him punk. If I did, he would be on my list. Or the Velvets would.
coming in at number 5 we have blink 182
number 4 would be circa survive
number 3 is matchbook romance
number 2 is my chemical romance
number 1 is blindside
Punk is just like Alternative, Indie and every other "breakthrough" genre; it died the second they gave it a name (and a stringent behavior and dress code).
I'll therefore list a few bands who kept the original spirit alive, but created some important variations...
1. DEVO
2. Joy Division
3. Talking Heads
4. The Cure
5. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds/The Birthday Party

I know, its just that I don't like any real punk bands, but I can never resist a survey. :)

I was going to quote and insult myself if no one picked up on that.Thank god you were joking, and to the kid that quoted me, have fun listening to whinebags. And they're still not punk. What constitutes punk you may ask? Well, in my opinion, not putting songs out like Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Have a nice day.
Ok seriously,
Dead Kennedys
Minor Threat
Black Flag
Bad Brains
(Older) Against Me!
someotherguy654
Against Me! FTW. Man, whenever I wear an Against Me! shirt someone ALWAYS comments on it. Like, even if they have numerous times in the past. Like "I'm not against you!" or something like that.
King Crimson, YES, Tool, Dream Theater, Rush.
Oh...is that not punk? I'm sorry. I only listen to music.

Oh, I'm sorry that I dont feel like listening to a man play the drums for 20 minutes straight.

 You could have skipped the thread....and every genre has something to offer. Punk is just stripped down rock. Instead of the self indulgence of prog.

Yea, I should have skipped the thread. I apologize for being a jerk. Sometimes temptation gets the best of me...well, a lot of the time actually.

which means by your logic they were punk before releasing that song, have a good dayNoFX
Fall Out Boy
A.F.I.
Alkaline Trio
The Used
You might say the last four are "emo" but they are all in the 'punk' section at FYE and Amazon, so I think they count.
I sorta skipped right into post punk, but real punk bands that I dig include...
-NoFX
-Screeching Weasels
-Bad Religion
-Against Me! (they're more punk than any of the other post punk bands listed and their fist albums were super punk, so new wave can be let off the hook for being progressive and generally a great album despite it's even more successful than the the previously somewhat successful album)
-Me first and the gimme gimmes (I'm a sucker for punk covers)
Ok I just noticed there are very few fans of Hardcore Punk here in Gamespot...anyways my top five punk bands in no particular order are:
Black Flag, The Clash, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Operation Ivy.
[QUOTE="its_me_"]King Crimson, YES, Tool, Dream Theater, Rush.
