I honestly feel that reading is more important, I remember my math techer saying that Math was more important, while I agree to some extent we aren't all bankers, accountants, or engineers. I say this because in my 2 years after graduating I haven't done one complex Math problem until I got back into college. The closest I came to math was just counting my money for work and using money at stores. But I read everyday, books, article, etc...

I don't get why so many Americans frown upon reading, because honestly it's the way that our information is fed to us everday, we don't read in numbers, our news articles aren't in numbers, out books aren't in numbers. Reading is more important, but sadly a lot ot people(even adults) can't read on even a 5th grade level, and frown upon reading anything.

To me, I see reading as universal, but math as career based.

Well you're going to be reading all your life regardless of your career.

Math is more universal than reading is.

Well if you have a life then you wont rely on false realities you make up from reading for your only exitement. I doubt people at your school cared how much you read.

I agree, but I'm happy I'm taking up a major and career that doesn't really involve math( I just want to be an English teacher) but I do great in Math, I just don't care much for Math, on a complex career based level.

You have to be able to read to do math outside of a very math-specific career that you won't possibly get without the ability to read, so reading.

Reading by far. If you can't read, you can't do math problems.

Um dude, reading is just more that imagination based fiction books, you have articles THAT FEED YOU YOUR NEWS! Signs that tell you when not to do something, if someone put a sign on a door that said "Don't walk beyond this point there is no floor", are you gonna read the sign or are you gonna walk into a room with no floor and risk killing your self? I think not, that's why I find it sad when a person thinks of reading as an after thought, Do you read a job application? Would you sign an application that say's "We are going to take you car, house, and money" without reading it first?

Reading of course. How can you live if you can't read? Maths is important, but being able to read ranks higher in my opinion.

And people please, don't turn this into an argument this isn't an argument downplaying anybody's career choice at all. Don't turn this into an argument, make it a discussion.
